Post Who are your favorite boat dealers?
Ok, to the point... sorta... Got the ok from the wife to get a mud motor/boat combo. What I'm looking for has to be minimum 18' with an open floor plan (think Crestliner jon or Lowe roughneck) and a strong motor to push it under hunt loads (average 3 hunters). I'm thinking Boss Drive's 40xp would be a good start. I live in Michigan and don't need a mud boat as much as a river boat that will handle skinny water with logs and stumps. I will also be fishing larger rivers for walleye and salmon with a full capacity load.

I'm not opposed to buying used but my dilemma is that the local banks will not finance a private sale more than 5 years, and not at all if it's out of state. Still looking local, but I'm also considering dealers in other states that have a good reputation and may carry a decent inventory of used stuff to peruse, with financing that won't require a second mortgage.

Let me know who your favorite local dealers are and I'll start calling..... I'm ok for a road trip for the right rig.... If this is breaking any forum rules for sponsors, etc... feel free to pm me.

Thanks for any info.

I highly recommend M&M marine in Savanna Ill. Best prices on MB motors and Excel boats in the midwast, IMO. Their web site will show new and used Inventory.

If financing is not an option for you, do what I do. Find a used aluminum boat that fits your needs for cheap that comes with a trailer, make sure the boat and trailer come with papers unless you want to go through a major headache with wildlife and state enforcement, fix the boat up to your needs (anyone who does aluminum welding can hook you up with adding whatever you want to it), then just finance a new motor that you want. I picked up my small 1440 boat for 200 bucks with a trailer. I had the transom built up and reinforced, had a grab bar added to it, lights, and a small fishing deck/storage added to the front for 300 bucks, then I got me a little used longtail for it. I've used that boat for 3 seasons with no issues. In your case, just find a good aluminum boat and trailer and get you a motor financed. As long as the hull is in good shape you are good. An aluminum boat is an aluminum boat, whether its new or not, and if you go that route, you will probably enjoy it more in the long run because you will not have invested too much into your hobby, especially if you plan on getting into this hobby with your family, cause we all know that things in life can change our hobbies, like more kids, job responsibilities, etc. if you don't have a ton invested in it getting started, you will enjoy it more and come out ahead in the end. Just my 2 cents bro

Just looked up interest rates on loans like that, 6-7% for 10 years. You should just put it on a credit card to get the miles. That’s the smart move here.

No financial wizard here
And I own my assets free and clear.

I do support you with your idea of a lower note, for those "just in case" times.
I don't encourage letting the loan go the full 7-10 years.
These boats depreciate quicker than vehicles.
And yes, if you are financing and want a long term boat, I would look for a different hull, better than the 2 you had mentioned. They just aren't designed for mudmotors, but yes, they will work.

It's all in what you are wanting and needing.
Well I can definitely respect that. Never had the intention of going full term, just a working man's reserve if you will. I would expect to have it paid in 3. All that aside, I'm definitely ignorant to all of the different builders out there. I've ridden in an Excel, and the War Eagle looks nice, as does a Sea Ark. Those are the only heavier hulled boats I have seen up this way... What are your recommendations for a quality hull offered in an 18'x60(ish). Keep in mind, not looking specifically for a mud hull, but a stump and log river hull for hunting that can also handle occasional deep water river fishing...

I'll look into them, thank you. The wife was looking forward to a road trip, but I'm sure we can find somewhere to go....

You could also check out the freedom outboards guys over in New York. They seem to run the type of water your talking about. Plus I want someone else to buy one and give a good review before I think about it haha.

Finance whatever you want, it is your life.
Things to consider;
You buy a new rig for say 18,500, three months later you might get 15,000 for it but probably less. So in a year, you are thousands of dollars upside down. If you finance the taxes and don’t put any money down, you are married to that rig for years. By the time you pay off those last two or three years, the motor will by junk.
If you pay the taxes out of pocket plus put 4,000 down on that same rig, finance it for 5 years and you will not go upside down on it if you pay a little extra every month.
The market is flooded on these rigs. Some proud dudes have been selling some of these rigs for a year and can’t get what they owe on it. That is something to consider

Post Re: Who are your favorite boat dealers?
I just realized that I never updated the post. I picked up a used Timber Creek 1854 with a 37 efi hd. I'm impressed with the fit and finish of these boats and literally have people stopping at my house and asking about it, which I thought was weird, but there aren't allot of them up this way. Once I got a hold of the right loan officer the process was easier than expected...

Now that I have ran it a bit, I would prefer taller sides and a mod v for the bigger lakes in my area, as well as reverse, so I put it on the for sale board just to see if there's any interest. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and will gladly keep it if no one bites.

Oh, if anyone is considering one of these boats I highly recommend them. Not only are they eye candy, but functional as well. This thing glides up and down my river like no one's business. If I sold this I would be on the phone with Tyler ordering another...

Thanks for all the input.
