Why the hell would you not want titties on your boat???? Unless you like men....then you are a homo. But in any event, I like titties and whiskey....and prize fighting......and duck hunting.... yeah, those things are good....

Cypress trees with hanging moss too :D

Giga - Flotation is to save your boat, life jackets are to save you. Exactly how does not having flotation in a boat make it "unsafe"? Most custom aluminum hulls do not have flotation, so your mindset on people who do not have flotation being idiots is flawed and bogus. If you want your wife and kids to be safe in the boat, don't drive like an idiot and make sure everyone is wearing life jackets. Not exactly sure how you came up with your conclusion on this matter but the way you explained it came out dumb AF.

Go write your congressman...

Federal law requires all recreational boats sold for personal use to have
USCG approved level floatation in order to be sold across state lines...

Seems they have made up their minds on the issue...

I'm not the one worried about it and insulting people like a reckless idiot, you are. If you want flotation, then have it, I don't care, but don't think for one minute you will convince me that I must have flotation, because you won't.

I'm sure all the people that died in those instances did so as a direct result of not having flotation in their boats..... come on dude, stop being reckless with your words and go put your go devil on a throw away ice chest from your nearest gas station so you can be happy with your flotation

Because of no flotation in a boat? You sure? Last time you posted statistics on this topic, they didn't support your statements of opinion. You want to go down this road again?

I guess if you only ride around in mud and 2 ft. or less of water like a bitch, then you might not need the floatation. Don't forget to wear your lifejackets if the boat goes down.

Reality is you often have to run the river or cross the bay to get to
those backwater marshes where your mudboat was intended to run....

Yeah Russ, I thought mud motors were for mud and shallow water too, can't believe I have been misinformed all this time.

It looks like whether we like it or not, minimum flotation requirements are here. My question isn't about should we have it or not, but which mfg. currently have it in their boats and which ones are on borrowed time with their prior license? I would love to hear from Prodigy, Uncle J, Timber Creek, etc. on this. What are their plans for future models?

It is not hard to comply with USCG level floatation rules....

Maker submits a sample hull for testing and the USCG will test and certify if it passes....

Then they can legally sell hulls across State lines as long as they continue to build to exactly the
same specs as that sample hull.... USCG visits them from time to time to verify that all new
hulls are built just like the sample...

If I never catch another alligator in my lifetime I will continue to get my license every year for this very reason. I have a commercial license and I am able to legally have a commercially rated hull which means no flotation.
My grandfather is 90 years old and never once owned a boat with floatation unless you consider the wood in one of his old wooden hull shrimp boats. Never sunk a single boat and has taken those shrimp boats in much deeper waters than any mud boat would dream of going.
Come to think of it, the 52,000 ton drill ship I worked on didn't have flotation in it either. Guess the people that designed it have shit for brains too!

US Navy doesn't have floatation on a nuclear submarine....

But they don't take wives and kids out for a boat ride either....

Regarding a personal boat sold to the public and used for recreational purposes
The law says it needs floatation !

Just that simple !

No matter what valid point anyone brings up, you will not convince giga about not having flotation. Just like other liberals, he is going to stand by his views whether they are right or wrong and then attempt to veer off of the topic at hand by reciting some worthless, unconfirmed fact about kids meals being unhealthy for children or something about a coast guard lifejacket regulation. In his honest opinion, the leading cause of death in this country is not cancer, not heart attacks, not crimes of violence, not abortion, nor car wrecks or suicides, but rather, lack of flotation in someone's crawfish skiff or Jon boat.

For this reason it is pointless to argue with him unless it's for your own amusement.

Dude, it's not illegal for a boat to not have flotation. Unless its built by a company that doesnt have the exemption, it's even still legal for a boat to be built without it.

You guys and your horse beating.. Hasn't the why's and why nots already been argued over in a dozen threads already? Personally, I think it should be a choice, period... 90% of my application will be in 4ft of water or less. I'm a little concerned of the other 10% being on the Detroit river and Muskegon lake salmon fishing, where it can get choppy...

Aside from the dick bashing, what are the regulations and where are they headed? I thought the commercial loop hole is closing and once current licenses are renewed, they have to comply with minimum flotation regardless of commercial status. Is this not true?

Each State sets their own rules about registration, titles, and resale...

Lots of different rules on a variety of public access properties within each State too...

Feds set rules regarding interstate sales and require USCG level floatation
in recreational boats sold to the public across State lines...

Looks like a boat floating at the dock in rough water....

Also looks like everyone made it back safe...

FYI - USCG rules are more stringent now than 10 years ago - so newest hulls have
more floatation than those from 10 years ago... Which is great till guys here convince
them to cut out the floatation and convert a floatation pod to a storage box...

When I bought my 1644, there was about 2 sq/ft of useable space in it. There was an 8” box that they expected you to stand on and drive from.

It’s ridiculous. Did you keep the additional flotation box in your hull, or did you remove it?

I was wondering what that upper deck thing was for, but where are the motor controls? Is that the new 40 efi with snorkel kit?

Post Re: Floatation on a Mud Boat
I've had quite a few mud / jon boats... All had flotation except one. The one I have now...

One of the boats with flotation was about 3 months old and I took it to get to a deer hunting spot on the river. While it was beached a large storm/blizzard came up and filled it with water from 3-4 waves. Somehow when I got back to it it was about 10 feet out in 3 ft deep water and sitting on the bottom. The flotation didn't work at all. On top of that, it was so heavy and water logged because of the foam that it wouldn't move off the bottom after all the water pumped out. It was a disaster. I wasn't impressed with flotation.

I understand that it has a purpose, but its like a motorcycle helmet or wearing a life jacket. Its a personal choice and it might not help anyway. No one is going to change anyone's personal decision.
