Post Gator glide question
Hey guys, been around here for a few weeks now lurking but first time posting. I’m currently building a boat(fiberglass over wood) to be matched to the 13 hp long tail I just built a little while back. Question is will gatorglide be any more slick than a slick epoxy finish? My assumption is yes....and a lot. Also, how well will it stick to epoxy assuming I sand it to rough it up? I’ve got pictures of your interested in seeing the boat and motor

Thanks Russ. I’ll do that when I get to that point with the boat. Just thought maybe someone here may know how slick the stuff is vs cured epoxy which is pretty slick

A lot.

He doesn't mind talking about it regardless of whether or not you're buying. He also is quite supportive when you apply it in that he halfway expects you to call or text with any questions while in the process.

I notice it a ton when I am dragging the boat by hand through hard shallow mud.

Thanks guys. There’s not a ton of places it’ll be put to use around here but I’d like to have every advantage if I need it....not a lot of use for for a smooth bottomed boat or a long tail either but I don’t let that stop me[FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Gatorglide is worth its weight in gold. It has kept me from getting stuck many many times and is a great product. How it fairs up to straight epoxy I don’t know but gatorglide has severed me well in my applications and I will continue to use it in my future builds

Just be mindful that it works very well so you don't get stuck but it can also get you in some terrible places. Its a fantastic product but if your not careful, you'll be as they say in ebonics "we be fucked".

I was running some vegetation and lillies and hit a flat that was covered in lillies when the tide went out. Didn't know it at the time but knew immediately when we hit it and the motor kicked up. We were running wide open in my stage 2 kawasaki and we slide approximately 60-70 yards onto this flat. When the dog jumped out the boat and she was standing high and dry I knew we were screwed. 2.5 hours later, we were able to get some water to the prop and slowly eat a ditch back out to the open water.

So while it is a fantastic product and does what its intended to do, you better watch out. Also, when loading and unloading your boat, you better keep it tied to the trailer when loading and unloading. Sucker will slide off the trailer on the landing ramp. When mine was freshly done, i could literally push it off my trailer with 1 hand.

Banded, you are correct. I’ve gotten in a bind a few times because it was so slick it put me on top of some nasty stuff and then pushpoling ensued lol

Just did my boat 5 coats of base and 5 of G2
2nd time out was running a trail that I’ve run dozens times and ran out of water. By the time the boat stopped I was 60 yards on dry land.

I was able to push the boat by spinning it in circles gaining 14ft at a time

With that said , I wouldn’t of been that stuck without the gatorglide but also would never have been able to get it unstuck.
I now have a winch lol

It’s definitely worth it imo. We went through some thick stuff yesterday fishing and had to jump a massive floaton which would have been an unsuccessful endeavor without it

Excellent stuff frog. Third time I took the boat out, went around a real bumpy road to get to the boat launch. Turned to back in and the boat shot off the trailer sideways. Strap popped loose at some point. Must have built it well, took minimal damage and the GG held up very well. The boat does excellent in the skinny water, have pushed it through no water, just mud, with my long tail carrying probably 600 lbs or more worth of me and my buddy and a couple coolers. It’ll maneuver in a couple inches of water with mud underneath.

Fixed up my trailer so it wouldn’t slide off again. It was only boards underneath before.

You might want to put some trailer mounted ratchet straps on the back of the trailer that you can hook to your rear boat handles. I have that on mine and adds a level of safety, keeps everything stable, and keeps you from losing the boat off of the trailer like what happened to you

Thanks for the concerns[THUMBS UP SIGN] I took that picture before I was actually done with it. I put backs on those so it could be unstrapped before backing down the ramp and not slide off and I ratchet from both handles to underneath the boat. The boat will float up over the lip once it’s in the water

You can get a pack of 2 boat buckles from academy so you don’t have to fool with that mess every trip, but what you came up with is functional lol

Ha! Yeah it looks like a mess but it’s not bad. The ratchets actually just go from the handles to an I bolt straight under the boat. They don’t cross as it appears, those are just all the extra length of the straps. I do think I’m going to look into the boat straps like your saying though as they’ll make it even easier.

That boat is really too big for that trailer but I’m using what I have. It’s an old jet ski trailer that I’ve given a longer neck twice now

Those little buckles are great bro. I love mine. You look like you did a good job on the trailer though regardless
