how many hours do you have on your motor and have you had to do any major repairs?

Author:  WestEndAngler [ Thu Mar 18, 2010 2:59 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: hours on your motor

140 hours, other than shimming the motor after 100 hours no repairs have been performed. I've put on a Gecker carb it has since been removed due to complications of it sticking WOT.

I've added a MM exhaust and love it.

Next project is a remote oil cooler for the summer

Then mikuni carb before duck bird season. I want to be able to run 28 with a load. I hit 25-26 now with 3 guys and gear.

200 hrs on my last PD with a few minor repairs, sheared the lower unit bolts off twice but they're only 25 bucks or so for the set. and i think i might have had the clutch replaced or worked on...

70 hrs on this new unit and not a problem yet.

35 GDSD - 100 hours - 3 oil changes and a couple dozen
pumps of the grease gun.... Still breaks 30 mph with the
original spark plugs...

Oh - burned the blades off the first prop at about 60 hours - sand
and oyster shells are hard on them props - if that counts as repair
I consider them "consumables" like gas and oil though....

06 35 GDSD. about 220 hours on it i believe. When i bought it the Tach was broken. Guy i bought it from figured about 120 hours. Iput a new tach and another 100 hours so far. No problems. I added the EVT Mikuni intake/carb kit and the EVT muffler. Onlt thing i've done is change oil, plugs, and grease. Well, i added an oil cooler to help out with the south louisiana summers. I can't complain at all.

Post subject:  Re: hours on your motor

Put 375 hours on a stock 06 32 PD in 13 months and it never left me stranded!! Went through a few props (user error), broke one prop almost in two, busted a few mufflers (typical with the steel B&S mufflers), sheared a tooth or two off the lower unit, but was unaware of it - found out during routine maintenance - so it was fixed without ever causing me any issues. Buddy bought it and has exceeded 500 hours but not sure by how much...sold it to him and bought a 36.

Had to relocate shortly after getting my 36 PD and have only put 260 hours on it so far, in which I have managed to wear out a few more props, beat up my rock guard pretty good, stripped a drive coupler (also apparent user error), lost a battle once with some silt fence at a boat landing and it cost me the lower seals, burnt a PTO switch (unprotected wire - user error), broke a push rod after getting the Mikuni, recently developed an oil leak - also believed to be result of the Mikuni, and yeah, that is about all I can think of at the moment.

Notice, the repetition related to user error?? They really do build them nearly indestructible, even for idiots like me!! As already stated by some others above, I could never thank KP and everyone at Pro-Drive enough for all they have done for me, and for the product they put out the door!!
