Re: Engine Hours
As long as you maintain oil changes with filter at 25 to 30 hours and change spark plugs along with air filter a couple times a year and don't run the carb too rich I would think a stock motor should get you anywhere from 800 to 1500hours. (that is if you don't beat the piss out of it too often). A good quality synthetic oil (amsoil) won't hurt either. It essentially boils down to keeping the moving parts bathing in something (oil) that prevents them from rubbing on each other. Changing your oil will also prevent the corrosive acids from prematurely wearing on engine bearings and your valvetrain. The basics will take you a long way (unfortunately I've found out the hard way more than once!) The older I get the less I want to sit around fixing my toys rather than using them. Running your motor too rich will also contribute to excessive carbon to build in your combustion chamber and not to mention the corrosive blow-by gasses that sneak past your piston rings and enter your engine oil. I could go on and on but I think this info. will help you out a little. good luck!
