 Single mikuni benefits
What kind of results should be expected from a single 42mm mikuni on a stock 36pd with a mm muffler.

 Re: Single mikuni benefits
probably some better accelleration, some top end
Make a vague query and get a vague response.
Not trying to be an azz but you posted up no information on what your baseline is, what your load is, etc.. Did you do any research on here (like use the search function) and read a little?

 Re: Single mikuni benefits
I've read some but haven't found where anyone has put up any #'s. Just trying to see if its worth the money.
The boat is an 1848pd with a 36pd fpr.
Just wondering if anyone has the single mikuni carb and mm muffler combo and how they felt about it.

 Re: Single mikuni benefits
if your gonna do the carb & exhaust, you need to go a step further and get the heads done (or atleast shim the stock springs). the final gains vary widely per each application. realistically you can expect 1-2 mph increase and very noticable increase in load carrying with the complete stage 1. as a general rule, the speed you are currently running with a stock motor w/o a load can be expected out of a stage 1 motor loaded.

Not trying to jack this thread, but what does head work consist of, and about what would it cost?

 Re: Single mikuni benefits
bellyup...ive got an 1854pd with the 36 and i have the mikuni and mm exhaust in hand, just working on trying to find time to get it all on. Only problem for our question is im doing the heads too so it wont be quite the same, but it will give you some idea of what the whole combo will do. Im going to have a free day next week so i will get it done then.... already have the stock intake ported just need to finish bolting up and adjusting the carb...look for my review to follow shortly..it should give you some idea anyway. Or make you want to do your heads too SP im going to be running the dual springs as well and from some reports on here im kinda nervous about it so good question. Ive heard a few guys say it will increase the valve train tension and possibly break the cam, but sounds like guys are running them with success as well. I would like to know if the cams that were broke were stock or aftermarket higher lift and contributed to the increased tension.

 Re: Single mikuni benefits
so many questions 1st issue: spring shimming. main reason i always go back to this is because in the past i ran an engine with just a carb/intake kit and a muffler. it only lasted a few hours before it floated and burnt a valve. direct cause was engine over-revvin' (way too many RPM's for the stock spring tension). i learned the hard way that a carb/intake kit and an exhaust are only part of the equation. granted, i'm not saying that you have you have to go all out on your headwork, but everyone should be aware of the risks and at the very least your springs need to be shimmed. this can be done easliy w/o removing the heads. in most cases .120 will be more then enough on the shims. we spend an azZ load of money on these engines and it makes no sense not to do things the right way. spend a little more now or a lot later! 2nd issue: dual wound springs. in the past we have had some issues with cam failure. i had a suspicion that these beefier springs coupled with aftermarket pushrods aided in these failures. i didn't move to the dual wound spring until after my cam was "broken" in with shimmed stock springs. that was over 100 hours ago and i've had no issues. i only know what i've been through. if your running a modded motor with dual springs built by someone, leave 'em alone, i'm sure the builder has thier reasons! spring pressure rates vary depending on the cam & valve train ratios!

The solutio to hole shot and speed is to install the new catanktorian turbo lift instIgator with the paradisplacement option modulator configured in parallel mode. It fits nicely within the airfilter.

Keep the stock carb and get the heads done first.

 Re: Single mikuni benefits
I installed one on my Chevy Vega in 1974 and all I can say is that it produced more dynamically calibrated instigator pillions than any other modification but the nuclear option. I was able to drive my chevy to the levee without ambulating. Best money I ever spent.
