i would call evt. I think they would be your best bet on the kohler... and they are great folks.
as far as what to do, that depends on your goals and budget. that is why I would call evt and tell them what you want to accomplish and what your budget is, and let them guide you and get you what you need....
If you want to keep it simple, exhaust, carb/intake, head job/valve job?
Other than that, it is almost unlimited depending on your budget.
post up a vague question and it is hard to get much direction.
what are you looking to do? top end speed? bottom end power? run a heavier load? How mechanical are you? Can you do yourself? mods will need someone who can turn a wrench to do/install the mods, and it seems there is always something to tweak....
use the search button, there is a ton of info posted up on what you can do, what you should do, what they will do for you... etc....
Good luck and let us know how it works out for you...

x2. For some reason, I kept trying to go to the kohler specialist...Tractor pulling guys. I figured hey, this is pretty much the only motor they work on, for sure they will know better... What a nightmare, call evt and be done with it. Robert is plenty knowledgeable about these motors, and builds them for boats, not tractors, which turns out to be pretty important in the long run. I am not saying anything bad about the tractor guys. The guy I chose to do work with was very helpful, and really tried to get me what I want, but its just such a different situation. Building motors to stay under 5000 rpms, vs building motors that can turn close to 10k. I bought a few things from Robert and Mike and they have really helped a lot to get my motor running right, and are very good at helping a rookie figure stuff out.

I had a lot of help on mine from Midwest Supercub. Just tell them what you want the motor to do and they'll point you in the right direction. You can buy 30hp heads and MWSC will deck them for I think $20 each.
