I think the pilots are on the sides of the bowl and are marked with a size on them.
You ever get that running right?

 Re: stock briggs carb
took the carb apart, there are two and there is 52 stamped on them. However that is not .052"
no DB8 haven't got it running perfect yet. still stumbles when I mash the throttle just off of idle. I'm going to open up the pilot jets a few thousandths to richen it a bit. I had an old Honda 750 with the same problem, running lean just off of idle, so I opened up the pilot jets a bit and it fixed it. I'll give it a shot and post results for everyone.

 Re: stock briggs carb
so I opened up the pilot jets from .018 to 0225 might have went too much. running in the water, the governer wants to surge at 3/4 to full throttle. pass. side plug looks lean drivers side looks good, some brown on it
I put a infrared temp gauge on the exhaust manifolds and I get 30 deg. hotter on the passenger side at idle, that is the side with the 142(smaller) main. I switched my (custom) pilot jets from side to side and it still is 30 deg. hotter on the pass. side. Question is this normal?
thanks

 Re: stock briggs carb
Was always told the #1 is the workhorse of the engine. I've seen some posts speculating why but don't remember the specifics.

 Re: stock briggs carb
so 30 deg. is not a big deal. ok
I think I'm trying to do more with the carb than its able to do. I keep telling myself its not a mikuni.
I'll get some stock pilot jets and go from there.
Does anybody have any stock pilot jets. new 13.70ish from jacksmallengine.com

 Re: stock briggs carb
MB was selling new carbs for like $85 (ones they took off at the factory). You may want to look at that and get lots of spares.

 Re: stock briggs carb
made progress today, I said screw it and opened the 142 main jet to match the 148 main. took it out and it ran very well. had some stall just off of idle so I opened up the idle mixture screws 1/2 then another 1/4 turn and now she has fairly decent throttle response.
#1 cylinder is the one on the right as your looking at the front of the motor?
