Post Another Idle Question
GTR 35
14 hours

Idles at about 1250-1400. Backed out the idle screw all the way still idles the same. Loosened bolt on the shaft that goes into the block to mess with that to get it lower, now it doesnt idle. Its WFO all the time. Adjusted the throttle cable and that didnt work either.

How the hell you get this thing to idle down?

Fixed this problem on a friends. Look at the linkage on the back the engine under the muffler and you will see a spring. Remove that spring about an inch long at it should fix you up.

With only 14 hrs, I'd take it back where you bought it and let them fix it

Matt, the easiest thing to do will probably be to remove the air filter housing so you can get a good bite on the gov. shaft with a screw driver to reset it. In daylight hours. Minus mosquitos. I am still scratching.

First get your govenor back where it belongs. Push on the govenor lever, Turn the shaft fully CCW and then set the clamp:

Next set your idle with the idle screw. Warm your motor up. Hold your throttle up against the idle screw and turn the screw so the motor idles at 1100.

Set your govenor to your desired setting with the govenor adjust screw in the back of the linkage.

Now see if its pulling off the idle screw. If it is bend the tab connected to the governed idle spring (small white spring connected to the govenor arm)to take some pressure off it- this is a slight adjustment. This will let the throttle seat against the idle screw.

Here it is on a 35- you are taking pressure off the spring and govenor arm so bend it opposite the arrow in the picture. You can remove it as mentioned above, but sometimes your motor will stall when you put an immediate load on it (put in gear when trimmed down). That spring keeps the idle from going too far down in those instances. Hope that helps.
