Re: evt vs bps
Even with parts that come with a "warranty", the odds of those parts actually failing are kinda slim. The problems will likely be damage to the block/bore/heads/rod guides/crank journals/etc......which won't be covered by the PARTS' warranty when self installed. Example: an improperly adjusted heavy duty rocker/push rod combo, could grind a cam lobe down in a hurry or cracking the rocker itself, possibly causing a bad chain reaction from pieces/shavings,etc. A piston ring that is installed improperly or that doesn't have enough ring end gap, could possibly do some damage/score the bore rather quickly. Would be hard to blame catastrophic failure on the aftermarket parts themselves. So, a "parts warranty" is not worth much, imo. I can't imagine any performance parts supplier is crazy enough to warranty anyone's engine if the parts are self installed.

My buddy at Autozone made a riding mower run faster than a pinto. I'll ask him what he can do for a mud motor. He's got all kinds of books with cool stuff for motors.

Re: evt vs bps
Not pointing any fingers. The cams are basically refurbished, stock cams "worked-over" by a cam builder. All it would take to crack one of these cast cams, would be one good hit via the pushrod, from incorrect gap. There have been other cams with issues, from another source though(not extreme). Lot's of stress on the valvetrain with the double springs and higher rpms than these are meant to run. I had an aftermarket roller rocker (not extreme) that was very close to failing......good thing I noticed it, otherwise it probably would have been catastrophic.......or close to it (like another one I know of, from that other source).

Re: evt vs bps
They bumpin it up a notch with bigger bores now....... combine that with some skinny little dude driving and maybe a purpose built hull & prop......45mph might not be to far off. I shoulda let my hundred pound woman run mine to see what it would do with 200 less pounds in it! My next one will be bone stock.

Re: evt vs bps
T mac Knowing what I know now I would go dual 23 gdsd, with carbs and exh. I like carbs because fighting the gov is a pain in the hand. After market exh is the way to go.
If you want to go fast you need a light boat , high rpm, and tall gears. You loose hole shot and load handling and toughness.
If you want to move a heavy load you need cubic inches, lower gears for power and larger props. Dual will give more torque and twice as much prop surface.
JD
My rig is set up for just one motor, if I wanted to go duals it would be a problem. The boat is decked over like a flats boat.

Re: evt vs bps
Thank you Dead bird. With the hard blind in place, 175 lb buddy myself 260, 75 lb DD. 5 dozen super mag decoys. 27.5 mph at 4750 rpm. If I trim up more I pick up rpm but lose mph. I can trim down to 4250 with out losing mph.
I am thinking of taking a little off the transom. Those speeds were with a leaking head gasket.
When I rebuilt I went 20 over on pistons. 10 thou more off the block for a total of 60 thou. We put in 30 thou larger dia intake and exh stainless high flow valves. JD
