Starting issues / 32 HP Generac PD
Over the past few weeks motor was hard to start. Turn key and starter would click. Would eventually kick over. Well this past weekend it would not start at all. Battery checks out OK and have it on a battery tender when it' stored. Even tried to crank motor with charger. Still no go. So I start to dig around and find problem. Get starter off and see that the Bendix is not popping up like it should. Think OK bad starter. Have starter resting on motor and turn key, Bendix pops up. So now I say, OK I got a bad ground. Rewire with new ground and reinstall starter. Turn key and starter just pops. Like it's bottoming out on the flywheel. Back off bolts to try to get gears to mesh. NO GOOD! So I take starter back off and try to find what I can do. Well to me, starter does not have enough power to turn the flywheel. I can pretty much hold it steady with my thumb. So I dig out owners manual. First thing I read is starting battery needs to be at least 625 cold cranking amps. Mine is 430 or so. Well I am not sure if that is the problem because I tried to kick the motor off before using a battery charger on the start setting so I'm sure the starter was getting enough juice. Now I ask, what do I try next. New starter, new battery, check for bad ground or all of the above. Hate dealing with electrical problems!!

A simple test to me to rule out battery would be to take the one out of your truck and try it. I know it has enough cranking amps. Start eliminating problems. However, if you know how to use an voltmeter you can tell if you are getting enough current to the starter.
FYI, batteries can test good without a load. They need to be tested under load to know if you have a dead cell or not.

Fork Dixie Chopper! For the guys with the older Gen motors looking for parts don't try Dixie Chopper unless you want to get ass raped! Quoted me $325.07 for a starter! WTF.............. So I looked on line and found one (it's not an OEM but it's still a Delco for 99.00 + 11.00 to ship. let's just hope this gets me going. Might be getting a call Sanders. I can sit back and watch you wire it up while I sit back and drink beer. Would also be the perfect time to get that RnT Dirty Bird I have been holding on to hahahahahahahaha Anyway thanks to Kook and others for the help!
