 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
Pull your valve cover off. Sounds like you dropped a push rod. Just got to put it back in. If it's damaged they only cost $8 to replace. If your push rods are still in place, turn it over with the kill switch pulled and watch your valves. If a valve is not opening all the way that could indicated a cam lobe failure.

 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
the side that is not firing is not getting any fire to the plug

Did you touch the plug wire to your tongue and turn the motor over? How did you determine you are not getting fire?

 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
i just got it out of the shop because my igniton key wires had come out and touched and it fried a few wires. could that have caused it and the mechanic looked over that?

 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
Like Clay said, sounds like diodes. Take the shroud off & expose the coils. There's a wire has forks off& goes to each coil. Unplug them & crank the motor.
******Note******* You WILL NOT be able to shut off the motor using the key or kill switch with them unplugged. If you have a Mikuni, simply remove the air filter & put your hand over the air intake to smother it. That will shut it off.
Another option would be to cut the wire before the fork. That would allow you to turn the key off & touch the wire together to shut off motor.
If the diodes are bad, the engine will run normal with them disconnected. Boat Dr has the wire harness with the diodes for about $25 if I recall correctly.

 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
so this would be a fairly simple fix with out having to bring it to the mechanic? could the coil pack possibly be bad?

 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
Could possibly be a bad coil, but you will need to eliminate the diodes before replacing the coil. Either way, they are both VERY SIMPLE repairs.

 Re: 35hp gator tail problem
I appreciate that Cody. That's what I always thought too, but was told otherwise by a certain someone I won't mention. Personally, I always pulled my wires to check em.
Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.
