Post marshmellow/Mikuni need a lil help
Im new to the site guys but i need some help. I ported and polished my intake on my PD and installed my kit and went take it for a run and the exhaust was cherry hot. so I take it that it is running to lean?? my buddy says i need to put a bigger jet in it, but where do i get it from and what size do I get?? Any advice here would be much help fellas. Im running a 2010 PD with the CDI so the carb was a bit different then the one shown in the directions that came with the kit from BPS

This is where I get mine. Your carb comes standard with a 160. I would recomend getting a few like the 162.5, 165, and 167.5 Try each one until you find the one that works best.

I would try a local Harley shop first.

I get all mt jets right from the harley shop its only a couple bucks a jet and you dont get stuck buying like 5 of each one like in the kits they sell. Just tell them what ones ya want and for what carb. I would try the 165 or 167.5 thats what I ru in mine

Had to step out for a while guys but I checked out the manual again and it says that it comes with a 175 main jet in it, so Im not to sure on what size to go with next. I guess I will just pick up a few different sizes and try that out. I will take it all off again tomorrow and research it all a bit more. Thanks for all the advice. I may have just registered to MMT today, but I've been reading and learning from the site now for about 6 months now and I found it very helpful In my decision making. Again thanks!

My BPS came with a 160. Pull your bowl and unscrew the jet and see what it is.

do a wide open throttle test. run your boat down the lake or river wide open maybe a couple miles. reach back and shut off key. make sure u are sitting down and be preparded to get maybe wet  pull the plugs and they shoud be a nice chocolate brown. like some have said its not uncommon to have cherry red exhaust. but it can be a sign of a lean mixture also.

Post Re: marshmellow/Mikuni need a lil help
since the I posted it back in april I been running a 167.5. I will run a test on it the next time I put it down tho. It seems to be doing good, but I was considering runnning a 165. I put the 167.5 because micka at mud buddy told me that would be the one since I ported and polished my intake. I just dont want to run to lean, just feel safer running a bit rich.

Is your muffler still glowing red? Mine does the same but I thought it was normal.

I have had 3 different pipes on my PD, both stock and modded. They would all glow at night.

jetting a carb is one of the simplist things u can do. and its is one of the most important things u MUST do. whats good in la. is not good in montana.inproper jetting leads to fried pistons. these carbs are sent out with a jet that in most cases will work. but you must do a w.o.t lake test with seasoned plugs. those jets are pennies of the cost of a top end job. just get out and do it. i don't think russell454 would put on a new holley carb on his hot rod with out checking his jetting and neither should we. just my $.02
