Post mud buddy belt noise
I am running a 05 mud buddy hyper that is new to me this year. Before this I had a PD so I am new to the belt drives. When under load, it sounds like there is a bearing going out under the belt housing. The noise makes the hairs on the bakc of my neck stand up it sounds so wrong  Is this caused by the belt being to loose or do I have other bigger issues to deal with? I don't lose power or gain rpms so I don't think it is slipping but hell I don't know. Let me know what cha think!

With the motor off turn the prop slowly by hand. See if you canfeel anything that seems abnormal. My 31 was making a noise and the local dealer checked it this way. I had a bad bearing and the shaft was toast as well. Quit running it til you figure it out if possible. That experience cost me $500.

i can't hear any noise from the lower unit other than the prop turning on mine. maybe without the exhaust and engine running you could hear something. but, i'm not sure how to do that at high rpms. if you pull the spark plugs and pull of the cover for the lower unit, you should be able to turn the prop by hand and might hear the bearings if they are bad. just a thought.

-- while you're in there you can change the gears if you've been wanting to. ;)

If its a bad bearing you could feel it. With the clutch engaged running at idle, put your hand on the outdrive near the front and back where the bearings are (larger areas on front and back of outdrive). Be safe and careful of the spinning prop.

If the seals were not checked and water got in the drive, the bearings can get rust on them and then will be out of round and make alot of vibration and noise. Taking the drive apart to replace the bearings and seals is not too difficult (may require a torch depending on what shape the bearing and drive shaft are in)- there is more product specific info on the MB forum.

Check the mb site like Gary said. I don't recall that info being available when I had an issue ( maybe I just didn't know about it) because I would have tried to fix it myself. I just removed my lower and they sent it to mb. You will probably be able to get better instruction on the mb forum.

I can't even get registered on that freakin site!!! I am at a stand still. Can't get the shaft out of the lower unit. Looks like I need a diagram for the actual unit I have. The link listed is different and has different components. Rrrrrrrrr a cheap deal on a used unit just became a sheet deal on a used unit. :x

Alright, I found the diagram, got a few more parts off and still can't get the shaft out. Is there a trick I don't know about?

Don't be a dic. I was being serious. I can't use their search function so I sifted through the site until I found your post, and they were very helpful. Thanks for assuming I am a lazy fork tho, I appreciate it. :ugeek:

Ruddyduck, could you post a link of the info you found on rebuilding the Outdrive on here? I own a mudbuddy and would like to check it out. Thanks
