Post Minkuni with < 45 hrs started sputtering/loss of power
I appreciate some helpful comments or suggestions.

My minkuni runs normal RPMs -out of water, but underway started "popping" and struggling to power my MB this afternoon. This is not normal, and I had previously ran all the fuel out prior after running it last friday and it ran super.

Today it appears that the minkuni seems struggling for fuel; however there lies the issue - the fuel line is primed and fuel is there. Also there doesn't seems to be any leaking of fuel from the overflow tube.

Could the popping be there is a "air leak' issue and not a fuel issue? I do not know much about these minkuni's but it has been quite reliable for many months of running short distances out in the saltmarsh.

I was going to pull it off tomorrow and clean it, and inspect the jet.

Is there anything else you fellows with minkuni's might also suggest?

Thanks.....
Joe Guide

Could possibly be an intake leak, bad diodes, a bad coil, bad oil pressure sensor, or a few other possibilities.

To check for intake leak, take some WD40 or brake parts cleaner & spray around all the joints on the intake system while the engine's running. If it idles up or down suddenly, then you have an intake leak right where you're spraying.

To check the oil pressure sensor, simply unplug it & run the motor as normal & see if the problem continues. It's located right by the oil filter.

To test the diodes, you have to unplug them from the coils & run the motor under a load. If the problem continues, then the diodes are ok. WARNING!!!! With the diodes unplugged, you won't be able to shut off the engine with the key or kill switch. Just remove the air filter & smother the air intake with your hand & the engine will die.

Again, could just be some build-up in the carb from fuel line break-down & carb needs a cleaning. Good luck & happy hunting.

Thanks for all those who commented...but it was a bad "coil"/magneto on the right side.

It was cutting out, popping, with blacked plug on that right side, and had a severe loss of power with half of normal RPM under a load. Out of water it was pulling proper RPMs

Mr. Warren Coco got me covered with a new Coil under warranty, and Tom and Dan over at "Atlantic Marine Power Equipment" (a Briggs & S shop) in Hampstead, NC that is the only shop that works on Mud Motors in coastal North Carolina. They got me fixed and back on the water.
