my engine is only idleing on one cylinder it sounds like. but when i hit the throttle its runs normal. then let off it goes back down to one cylinder and wont stay idleing. could this be a dirty carb?

Could be a number of things. Gov could need adjusting. Idel set screw could need adjusting. The tab that conects to the spring for idel under load may need adjusting. Throttle cable may need adjusting. It is more than likely one of the above simple fixes, but it could also be a number of other issues. Really hard to say without looking at it.

I got a chance to mess with the idle today and still the same thing, sounds like it's on one cylinder

Do you have fire on both sides (disconnect the spark plug wire to check)?
