 What's this??? Changed the starter on my 27 GDLT (kohler). It wouldn't start by the key after I installed the new one so I cut this out and now it starts. Soo what does this do and should i replace it? Any and all info greatly appreciated.

Re: What's this???  That's the mercury switch. It's there so the motor has to be at a certain angle or it won't start. Safety feature so you can't start it with the prop in the water & throw yourself out.

Re: What's this??? If you were working in the driveway - with the motor down - it
is probably still good - you might want to reconnect it and test
with the prop elevated.....

What's this??? It has to be mounted at a certain angle on the motor for it to work properly.

Re: What's this??? I took that mercury switch of my gd. I wanted to able to start it while down in the mud or water. Plus, I got hung up in some branches In the water and couldn't tilt the motor up to start it. I unhooked it that day.
