 Av Gas mix
Do you guys run AV gas in your mud motors?
I ran into a few guys over the weekend that run a 50/50 mix of Av gas and 93 in there Go-Devils. Just wondering if its safe for all mud motors?....
Thanks Guys!!

 Re: Av Gas mix
Aviation fuel has a higher octane to resisit predetonation, and it also has lead in the fuel. It will leave deposits on your valves. Lead is softer than the the valve so I really dont see it being an issue.

 Re: Av Gas mix
Just remember your motor was not made to fly. It was made to cut grass. If you feel you need the higher octane use 93, but the AV gas will be just a waste of money. IMHO

Av gas will be a waste of money but it will not hurt ya motor. I ran quite a bit of it through mine when I sold my airboat. I didnt find any performance difference but it sure smelled good. AV gas (leaded) is supposed to run cooler than unleaded. so I heard.

 Re: Av Gas mix
There is no need to run any mixture of Aviation fuel. 93 octane should be good for a engine with shaved heads and higher compression. 87 works just fine in the stockers.
I'd be more concerned with the ethanol that is being mixed with fuels today. It is prone to absorb moisture out of the air so if it sets up very long it can cause corosion and damage to your fuel system. Always mix some marine stabil or other fuel stabalization product if you are running fuel with methanol mixed in.

 Re: Av Gas mix
Advantage of av-gas is 2 year shelf life, no ethanol, motor runs cooler and the lead lubricates the valves.

 Re: Av Gas mix
So do you think it would be totally Safe to run 1 gal of AV to 5 Gallons of 93? I know so guys around here run 50/50 and have done it for years. I run mostly salt and its in the elements 24/7.........
I run a Kohler right now but in a week or so it will be a vanguard. My buddy runs straight AV in his Kohler 25 .......

 Re: Av Gas mix
I do know that av in small 2-strokes doesnt always work out too well, It burns slower. Probably not going to be a problem in these motors but it is something to think about, you might actually end up losing power if you dont advance the ignition some to compensate for the slower burn.

 Re: Av Gas mix
I guess my question would be why spend the extra money? These engines are built with hardened valves seats so you don't need the led and unless you are running high compression you don't need it. Heck run 93 octane and send me the difference if it makes you feel better
