 hooked up rev limitor and...
i hooked up my rev limitor last night to my hd4000 after throwing a push rod the other day. i reset the push rods and had the valves set at .005. when i crunk the motor after the valves were set with out the rev limiotor on it sounded great, probably better than when i got it. When i hooked the limitor up last night and crunk the motor it doesnt sound right at all. it will turn rpms fine but when you get on it, it seems like the motor skips a few times, the exhaust pops a few times then it starts to rev up to 3 or 4 thousand rpms. please help

Re: hooked up rev limitor and...
I don't see how a Rev Limiter would cause any of this... so if you unhook your limiter does it run fine than...
I would pull the covers agian and check your valves agian... willing to bet that maybe the adjust nut backed off and know your not set to .005... I know the 1st time I adjusted mine I didn't button it down tight enought and my motor was hard to start a day or two later... I pulled the covers and found out I needed to adjust them agian... she ran fine after that...

Re: hooked up rev limitor and...
What are your RPMS when you "get down on it". Your probably bumping the rev limiter and thats what its there for. When on the trailer you can run up the RPMS so fast that it doesnt seem to register accurately on the tac. But that missing is it bumping the limiter. What chip do you have.

Re: hooked up rev limitor and...
4470 to 4670. I unhooked it and it sounds fine the valves are still set where they should be. I guess it could be bumping the limitor when I rev it up. My rev limitor has a red green and black wire. It also has a white wire that was cut from the manufacture. The wire coming from my motor has a white black and green. How should I wire it. Originally I had it wired green to green black to black and white to red since the white wire on the rev limitor was cut from the factory I assumed to not use it.

You are hitting the limiter and its cutting out.

Re: hooked up rev limitor and...
To check the Rev limiter you need to come up w/ the rpms slowly watching the tach and when you get to 44 to 45 you should figure it out. Poker nailed it. It revs up faster than the tach registers when not in the water.

Re: hooked up rev limitor and...
Im not sold that they will prevent engine damage. Just something else to spend money on. I can tell rpms by sound/feel so its not worth replacing my burnt out limiter.

I ain't had one in over 80 hrs, but if you're new to all of this, I think it's a good idea to run one.

Re: hooked up rev limitor and...
Mine done the same thing ut was faulty and caused my motor to run on one cylinder killing the fire onthe other. I checked mine by pulling off one spark plug wire at a time
