What's the benefit of having iron mtn heads vs having stock heads modified?

IM heads are nothing more than modified stock heads. They're decked 30 thou, ported and polished, springs shimmed, and ss valves, oversized on the ?exhaust?

Aslo one cost a hell of alot more than the other....I modified my stock heads with SS after market one piece valves and all the fixings and i can jsut about bet the flow way better than the IM heads.....Mine have a little somtin somtin done too.

I had a local speed shop do a port and polish along with a valve job for less than $200, decking would bring it into the $225-$260 bracket.

Hey DB8, I can't keep quiet no longer with all this jibberish you been typing!

1) I spent $125 on valves, .002" decking cause i run a forged flat top piston. The existing seats were cut as part of the port work, so the valve job was included as part of the port work. The valve guide was removed, cut, and reinstalled after the port work. The exhaust port was ported then mirror polished, the combustion chamber was deshrouded, blended, and polished. Five angles on the valves and tulip cut. My intake and adapter were also included in the port work. After everything was reassembled they were flow benched. I spent $650 total!

2) My port job included behind the valve guide, does yours? Also you have factory valve seats that have been grinded, your port work looks like its been done with a hammer and a chisel. LMFAO

3.) I see you posted a picture of a decked head, if it looks like shiat when you put it on its gonna look like shiat when you take it off, its not gonna change. IM does do a good job of decking i'll give'em that.

IM's are ok if you wanna run a LITTLE better! They are better than stock, but far from a custom set.

You could have gone through the advantages of a custom port job vs. personal/negative attacks, but you followed your MO of sniping and your own negative cheerleading. Once again a fabulous representation of yourself, congratulations.

Med cody at setx does fine work. He sells the bps stuff and also does beautiful custom work. He did dfous motor and it was a night and day difference.

I don't have the IM heads on either of our motors, but I can't really argue that they are a good setup for the money. You really can't do too much better at your everyday machine shop and not to many places around that most would trust for the port work. I don't have a place to take heads locally for good port work that I know of. I'm sure there is a place here somewhere, but most performance shops are set up for working on bigger engines. The smaller machine shops are able to do most machine work (decking and cylinder work), but haven't talked to any that were really confident in doing the port work.

Cody does good work as far as I know, I don't think anyone is arguing that, but not everybody has "Cody" right next door. Not everyone wants to ship back and fourth and have downtime while waiting on the work to be done either. That's pretty much all I think Gary was saying. They are a good option for the money and you don't have to have any more than an hour or two of downtime if you don't want to. You spent more and had more downtime, I don't really understand the argument.

Just out of curiosity, how would those heads work with the rest of the engine being stock, or with the rest of the "bps recipe"? Those are "flowed" to work best with the specific pistons and cam that you are using, aren't they? Would they really be the best all around option for others that weren't wanting to get quite as aggressive as you did? I'm not arguing, I'm asking a serious question.

One of you assholes answer my question. I see both of ya bouncing around in this forum. Sure 50 is just trying to stay out of it and Takem is trying to think of something clever to say (which could take a while ), but that was a real question. I know when I talked to Al at PVT, he mentioned keeping stock sized valves and doing minimal port work to keep the port velocities up and keep the motor from being "lazy" on the bottom. I don't know enough to tell you any different, but just curious, those heads have decent sized valves and a ton of port cut out of them. Would they really be a better "all around" option for most customers?

I have stock internals and Cody heads. They kick ass. I don't have any IM to compare em to performance wise. Maybe they would do just as good but I doubt it. I'm not knocking IM heads they're are a great head for most people/situation but I wouldn't say they're as good as a custom set if you have someone who knows what they're doin

No need for pecker measuring. Gary answered my question as did Clay with his info. I dont see the the reason to get shit started about it. Not everyone does work as well or might not be as good as Cody is. He didn't say it couldn't be done. He simply gave an example of what can happen vs buying a good set of heads that has been done right from the get go and that down time is minimized. I've met Gary one time but from the time I first msgd him on the mb forum he has helped me....no matter how stupid the question(s). I'm also pretty sure that there are just a handful of ppl on these forums that can hang with him in the knowledge dept regarding the briggs. I certainly wouldn't classify his info as jibberish. I appreciate your input as well gator on what you did to your heads and the cost.

No prob. Just be sure u get ur moneys worth is all im saying, even if u do have to ship them somewhere. Downtime I can see it would need to be minimized during hunting season no doubt but afterwards u have all the time in the world....but hey bud in the end they r ur heads so do what ever u feel is right for u

Takem, did all that port work make your engine lazy on the bottom end? As the guy from PVT suggested? I don't need lazy when I'm trying to get on plane in 2 foot tall lillies.
