Post clutches
im in the process of drawing up some plans for my mud motor and for the most part have it figured out but was wanting to run some stuff by yall boys with some mm expertise! im thinking about putting a go cart type clutch on my small mm all im using it for is to run limb lines up and down some small rivers and its gonna be on a small boat so its not gonna need much pushing. was just wondering what yalls thoughts were on that issue thanks :D

So you'll be making it a chain drive or v-belt?

Chain isn't as forgiving as a belt, plus you have to keep it lubed constantly.

V-belts will more than likely slip way to much once in the water.

I have no experience with either application on a boat , but me thinks these are legitimate reasons of concern.

im probably gonna run a timing belt type drive im planning on machining out some pulleys myself on the cnc i thought about the chain drive but like yall said it would either have to run in oil or be lubricated alot, and they wouldn't hold up i dont figure to well after a few bumps and bangs. the v belt would probably be just fine for what i need but if i ever did get into and dense vegetation id probably regret that set up to so im working on the timing belt idea now

well if you are planning on building on something with a go kart clutch and 6 hp motor (guessing) your not gonna be in to dense of stuff to really matter and you can run a chain using an oil bath lube technique. plus its not like you lubed up your 4-wheeler chain back in the day all the time. you just fired it up and hauled ass as fast as your 225 cc could. I have never had belt slippage on my lawnmower when i ran into an ant bed or grass to tall, it was just bog it down and kill it before the belt slipped so you may be alright there. On the for real side, when i went through my (build my own motor stage) it's way easier to build a long tail. Good luck man this stuff can get addicting.
