 mikuni carb and stock exhaust. will it hurt me?
will it hurt my engine having a mikuni carb and still having a stock exhaust?

won't hurt anything , but to get th full effect of the carb it would be better to have exhaust.....gains from your setup would be better throttle response, better idling, are you putting a rev box also

Won't hurt. I ran a 42HSR and stock Briggs exhaust for a few months.

I have done this and only used a HSR42 on a 35 hp engine and I do not whant to do it again!
Yes it work, but a really recommend another exhaust first! You get better throttle response, better idling as take'emgator wrote. I also notice the following problem on my engine we test: Backfiring, the idle is not good and dropp and the engine can in some case stop.
So my recommendation is to first change the exhaust then the carburetor. Then it work much better.
