 35 HP Briggs Fuel Problem
Can someone give me some guidance here? My 35 HP Briggs will not run unless I pour fuel into carb. Took the carb to small engine repair shop and had a kit installed. Brought it home reinstalled the carb and same thing, won't run unless I pour fuel into carb. The fuel pump seems to be working fine as it pumps fuel when engine is being turned over.

Re: 35 HP Briggs Fuel Problem
Try pumping your ball. If it still doesn't run check the fuel shutoff solenoid that is installed on the carb. If the solenoid is bad (not opening) your engine will not run.

You should hear the solenoid 'click' when you turn the key, if it doesn't you can replace it or just plug it with a short metric bolt.

Re: 35 HP Briggs Fuel Problem
I found this online for you. Hope it helps.
1- However, have you Checked the Carburetor Solenoid? The Following is a Basic Instruction File I made for Checking the Carburetor Solenoid. Any Input is Appreciated. **Check for Current/Voltage (10.5 VDC Minimum) to the Carburetor Shut Off Solenoid. If the Carburetor Shut Off Solenoid has Current, then On Some Solenoids you can Remove the Needle and Replace the Solenoid to Test them. ****PLEASE DO NOT OPERATE THE MOTER WITH THE SOLENOID BYPASSED IN THIS MANNER. THIS IS "ONLY" FOR TESTING.**** For Others, Remove the Carburetor Solenoid and Go to the Hardware Store. Purchase a Bolt of the Same Diameter and Threads. It Needs to be 1/2" to 3/4" Long for the Horizontal Mount Solenoids and 1/4" Long for the Vertical Mount Solenoids. Put this Bolt in Place of the Solenoid. If this Corrects the Engine Problem, then Replace the Solenoid. ***NOTE: THIS IS FOR CHECKING THE SOLENOID ONLY I NEVER SUGGEST YOU OPERATE THE ENGINE WITH THE SOLENOID OUT OF THE CARBURETOR EXCEPT FOR TESTING PURPOSES*** Sometimes the Plunger is Moving, Just Not Far Enough to Allow the Gas to Enter the Jet

Re: 35 HP Briggs Fuel Problem
Thanks to Deadbird8 & Craig, problem resolved. The solenoid checked out O.K.. The problem was the wiring harness that hangs out like a bird nest on the side by the starter. Last season when it quit I was plowing thru heavy willows after dark and apparently a limb had snagged the wiring harness and created an open circuit to the solenoid. I see on some newer models that M.B. has installed a guard for protection of the wiring harness. I'll have to see about getting one for my rig. THANKS AGAIN!
