I have looked at a couple of previous posts, but I am curious about the opinions of the members on this topic. I am thinking about adding a mikuni carb to my rig. I have already done head work and replaced the cam, and I think the intake and carb is the last piece to the puzzle. I was going to get the BPS kit, but I noticed the EVT kit comes with a new intake. I am interested in pros and cons on both. I am as interested in reliability as much as performance. Thx for your input!

i have evt's exhaust and intake. love the exhaust, i hate the intake.

The EVT is all about top end gains,the bps has good bottom end and mid range.This is what I have been told.

Thank you for the input! Come on guys there has to be more opinions than just 1 post! I have had my stock intake worked on, so I am leaning towards the BPS. But if there is something else I need to know I am all ears! Looking for opinions. I have also had my stock carb worked on, so I am not sure if I am going to pick anything up, but i can at least do side by side comparison, and see which one runs better.

FYI- for you PD owners. I was running today across a lake that had 2 ft waves in the center, and I lost my stock Filter housing. Luckily I did not lose the K&N!

I had 2 break running rough water. Lost the whole thing first time. Had a bungie on it the second time so I didn't loose anything. Drilled the mounting plate and large back nut out and used a 1/4" stainless bolt and lock nuts to put it all back together. Never had any more trouble.

BPS offers a cleaner more thought out kit. IMO

The nuts are not coming off, the bolt/stud is breaking where it comes out the mounting plate. The way the filter box sits on a verticle the up & down motion weakens the stud till it breaks.

Yeh, thats what I did. 1/4" w/lock nuts.

Used the BPS kit that I found used and paired it with the Deadbird8 intake. This pairs up nicely and is not setting up as High as the EVT intake. I have been very pleased with this set-up.

PS also used the carb braceing from the stock carb to hold the Mikuni. Suggested by Deadbird8.

Evt set up i turned 5000 this new setup 4460!! I feel alot better around the 4500 mark LOL

I guess it's all in what your comfortable with.. I had the original BPS 45 parts in my motor but lost a cam lobe and busted a billet roller rocker.. Both caused enough headaches.. Lost confidence in BPS parts after that.. Haven't had any issues with the EVT parts, service or performance.. Not sure why you don't like the EVT intake Forever Draggin..

I do agree the BPS stuff looks good in the kit but I got burned by good looking parts twice from them.. Nice looking is Foremaaaan's m/o.

I ran both on the same motor and boat combo as stage one.
BPS had better midrange and bottom end ( Intake was stock). EVT had more rpm (about 150 rpm).

On my heavy ass boat (20x60) I wish I had stayed with BPS.
Both started about the same. I screwed up and went stage 3 ( more is better), I stayed with evt. I don't know why but even as stage 1 the extra 150 to 200 rpm did not make for extra speed just more wear. I only ran evt as stage 3 , I ran her 4600 to 4750 rpm I would gain no extra speed past 4750 . At 4250 I was running 25+ at 4700 rpm 27 mph this is a hunting load with a hard blind in place. It would turn up to 5000 but gain no speed. On a real light boat and different gears it might make a difference at top end, but you will lose bottom end. Any thing pass 4300 rpm will shorten the life of your motor.

I cant compare the two but EVT s setup has been great for me. the only thing I was looking for was carrying big loads while hunting(4 guys and gear) and thir stage 1 did that. The Mukunni is a great carb and once you figure it out you can really dial your motor in from low range to high range.

Thank you for all of the input. I just ordered the BPS Mikuni Kit for a remote set up. After I install it, I will post the results, and compare it to my modded stock carb. If there is no difference then I can always return the Mikuni with in 30 days.

However, I would think that by getting rid of the air filter assembly on the stock PD should improve things by about .5-1 MPH. Anything above this I will assume is from the carb. To be continued....

Deadbird- Good point. If I get a chance I will do exactly that! Also, thank you for the pictures of your intake work, it looks really nice. I may be in touch with you about adding this if this doesn't give me the pop I am looking for! Thx. again.

Question- I recently added an electric fuel pump for the moded stock carb, but i am worried that it may flood the mikuni due to the accelerator pump. Does anybody have any experience with this? Just wondering if i should go through the trouble of disconnecting it. Easy to do with the fuel line, but a little more of a pain since it wired into my ignition switch. There is always trial and error I understand. Thx for the input. N
