Post Marshmellow on Gator-tail
Hey guys, I bought a new marshmellow exhaust from GT and thanks (many thanks) to Westendangler, i got most of it installed...however, it didn't come with any gaskets. I called a local commercial briggs dealer, and he said, unless it had around 300 hrs, he wouldn't worry about the gaskets. He may not have understood what i was doing, but oh well...my question is this...here are some pics...is what came off just the sealer on the gasket (and if so, where do i get some) or is this actually part of the gasket and i need to order new ones?

You need new gaskets, those are no good. If your really in a jam you could try putting them back exactly where they came from with some high temp permatex silicone. Let us know how the muffler performs.

You can use them again. There is a thin foil like exterior on them that can peal (like yours did) but it will not affect the seal on the exhaust.

Hey, Mike W....you ever try to go buy these gaskets??? You can't just run over to the local small engine repair shop...I called all over Tulsa and no one has them in stock, they have to be special ordered...which is going to take a few days...and they are $5 bucks.......a piece.....and i want the exhaust on NOW.

OK, so i have 2 votes that they are shot and 1 they can still work.

Poker1---should i just peel that foil off and go get some exhaust gasket sealer from the auto parts store?

I'd put em back exactly like they came off and run it like ya stole it. Seems like worst could happen is ya blow the gasket completely and it makes it louder. In which case you order new ones anyway.

You can reuse the gaskets. Run it for a while and see if they leak.

If you have any questions give me a call. 256-996-1632 Dan

There is not enough pressure on da gaskets to worry about it. Your gaskets look fine for what they need to do. Just my opinion.

Woody just put them on, no sealer. They will be fine. I have reused some a couple times swapping exhausts back and forth. Yes they are cheap, but you ever try to buy parts for a 35/36 off the shelf anywhere? GOOD FORKING LUCK on that one. So run them and if it makes you feel better order a set and put them on later. No reason to be beached for a week waiting on new ones. Course you learn that when you order these cheap parts, order more than you need.

I know u have a gator tail, but if u call Go-devil they stock most parts and they ship everything next day weather u like it or not. I've order several lil parts for my 35 and got it the next day. Or call Gator tail im sure they do the same.

You can re-use while you order new ones. BoatDr or EVT have thicker gaskets that work well.

The exhaust sounds great and i agree it sounds quieter than the original...however, my engine sounds bad. I've looked all around for wires that may be frayed but can't find any... I did notice that when i took off the plastic cover, sparks flew when i got the wrench too close to the red caps... I'll try to post a pic, but it is hard from phone...more pics and audio later...

the last picture is where i was taking the nut off the plastic cover and the wrench got close to the red caps and caused sparks...scared the piss out of me.
Uploading video/audio now.

That muffler looks very nice Tulsa. Is it far enough away from the plastic box so it doesn't melt it?

I don't know what the piece is that sparked but it is fairly easy to fry your diodes if that is connected to them in some way.

I don't think there is any way it will melt it...there is a sheild under the muffler...

Anybody want to take a stab at why my engine is "loping"? Also, i can't get 4000 rpms out of water...it gets up to that 3980 and then lopes.

I've been running mine for 15 hours now and have noticed the heat shield does it job just fine. The cover WILL NOT melt.
