Rotaryengine?
Does anyone make/tried a small true rotary engine of true wankel design that might be used as a powerplant for a mudmotor?

Re: Rotaryengine?
I hate to keep beating a dead horse on the rotary engine but it seems like a good concept. Didnt mudbuddy try a 75 HP rotary for a while ? I know I saw a video of it. Is the rotary unreliable? what would be the downside of a rotary? I do aquatic weed spraying and am looking for a boat/mudmotor to use instead of an airboat. I need to be abble to tote a load.

Re: Rotaryengine?
They have to turn 6000 rpms to get the torque the lawn mower engines get at 4000. Which would just be obnoxious in my opinion. I think the one you are talking about ran like 55 mph. The reason they didn't continue using it is because it didn't have the low end to push through the mud and weeds. Lots of hp no torque.
On the airboats that use airplane engines they have designed some type of torque converter to get more low end power. Don't know if something like that would work on the mm.

Re: Rotaryengine?
cb, no converter on an airboat. aircraft are large displacement low rpm motors. figure lycoming is 540c.i. motor for 260-300 hp @ 2900-3200 rpm. push one much over 3200 and it will come apart soon.
the 4 cyls 320 ci for 150-160 hp and 360 ci for 180-200 hp.
its when you use a car motor you will see gear reduction units. you have to goveren the prop down to around 3000 rpm from the 4500-6000 the motor will turn.
