i've been working on some upgrades for the 23 as numerous people have inquired about upgrading these engines if possible without going overboard on parts and costs and still keeping reliability. i have found that the 23 seems to respond better to the same mods used on the 35. even though overall numbers are lower than the 35, percentage wise the power gains are better than the 35 comparing apples to apples. a stock 23 give or take runs around 23 hp at 3600 rpm, max's out around 24-24.5 on hp and about 35 on the torque or so. our first upgrade takes the 23 up to around 28 or so hp and 40 on the torque all with stock parts. that's anywhere between 15-20 % increase in power.

the next upgrade at the moment is what we call the 32. the engine will put out 32-33 hp give or take and still run at the 40 mark on torque almost all the across the board. that's right at a 40% increase in hp. that should help push the boat thru the water. this mod is done with a cam upgrade that we get made just for this engine but still retains the stock carb, intake, filter, pistons and rods. we want to keep this engine as simple and reliable as possible. other mods are being looked at but for now this is what we are offering. any inquiries or legitimate suggestions on modifications are welcomed for future upgrades. we are not looking to build overpriced, cammed, carbed, or over the top bombs waiting to happen.

i have supplied a dyno sheet on my 32 test engine. this engine is actually running about 33.5 hp with our minor mods. we can offer mods on brand new engines with warranties or rebuild a customer supplied engine as long as it passes our pre-modification requirements first. if anyone has any interest you can contact Josh at Bayou Thumpers at 985-665-8013 or Robert at Bayou Rentals who we both work with and is also a sponsor here. feel free to respond back with any inquiries or suggestions yu may have.

exactly right Flattyphil it's for $$$$$$$. i don't see anyone at all on this sight giving away parts and services for free but i do see lot's of people giving away misinformation and misrepresentation by people that don't have a clue to start with. i don't have thousands invested in computerized equipment just to give away my time and expertise. in my first post on this subject i gave out contact info on how to inquire about upgrades. just scroll back where the dyno sheet is and look at the post for contact info.

i do have a shop that i work in and do some outside work on the side. if you have an engine already and want to get it run or upgraded just send me a pm. i don't do any repair work myself if needed before upgrading but have it done by my associates then i take the engine and do the upgrades and testing. a brand new engine out of the box is usually not ready for upgrades without some work so most rebuilds and older engines require some form of work upfront before modifying them. if the engine is not up to specs in all forms the upgrades will not perform or last and we will not do any upgrades without it meeting our requirements first. if you want it to be right come see us. we'll do our best to provide you with the best for money spent.

Dont get me wrong, I wasn't calling B.S. just asked what the mods were. Its eather timing/timing curve a long with air fuel raito changes. Never said I wanted somthing for nothing if its a product hes devloped what is it? Thats mainly what I asked. If its a list of mods to stock parts ok thats diffrent. Im the same way with automatic transmissions. I make my own shirt reprograming kits I dont buy any & dont give out my mod lists for any units for free. Just seemed like a liget qustion following his first post. I posted good info & results on a stock 23 hp cam swap in a 16 hp v-twin. (Also drilled main jet .001 that got rid of slight hesatation when whacking open the throttle) to pick up some cheap torque $144.

i don't give out details of my mods Flattyphil for free or for dollars. if someone wants some work done I do it and send it out just as you might with a transmission. if they want to know what has been done they can tear it down and look. why divulge anything at all if you have a proven mod that works then sit on it for some profit and let the others figure it out. that's business plain and simple. others have as much opportunity as the next one to come up with something that works and can market.

If its internal mods I agree with you 100% on that! I guess I should have re phrased my 1sr question. Are they modded stock parts or newly developed bolt on parts?

aside from the cam we have made for our larger hp upgrade we try to use stock parts as much as possible that have been reworked for our use for longevity and warranty purposes. there is more to be had out of it but at what cost? at some point you need to draw the line and go with it.

So if I'm reading this right, you're modifying a customers engine, they're paying you in American dollars, and you won't tell them what you've done to it? They have to take it apart to find out? I'm just making sure I'm understanding this correctly.

Ok, you fellas ever do any hop ups on the really smallblocks? (16 hp) I know just getting a 23 & be done with would be a better move (more stroke & bore) but this ol v twin I currenly have runs great no leaks & burns nothing but fuel.

the 23 is the smallest thing we fool with at the moment and probably will be for now. the same basic principals apply to just about all these engines and they usually respond fairly close to each other speaking in terms of a percentage amount of hp increase for mods done . we don't sell parts to anyone to hop up their own engines. we sell a "hp package" that we install and run on the dyno to verify output and provide the dyno sheet to the customer to show what he has. it's similar to going out and buying a specific size outboard motor. you are buying a specific package from them and they will provide basic technical specs in the brochures but they aren't going to provide specific cam specs, valve specs, timing specs and such between each and every engine size they offer. you decide which size you want, they sell it to you, plain and simple.

Have you started doing anything for the smaller copperheads yet like the 16 horseor is it still the 23 horse only.

Also, if you want more hp than 16, get a bigger block.

If my boat was designed to handle more then a 15 horse I sure would go bigger motor but since it aint I was looking for a update from this gentelmen on his buisness and yea I seen where he posted not at this point and that has been a few weeks so was looking for update from him on if he decided to do something for the smaller motors.

I can see why most of the indusry people I have spoke too say to just call them for answer instead of coming here their words ( too much wrong info and smartass internet heros on that site) so peace last post on here, sure I wont be missed.

blaster at the moment we aren't looking to do anything on the smaller engines than what we have now because to be honest we haven't had anyone ask us to do anything on those engines. i guess there's always an exception to the rule though. if you have any interest drop me a pm and we can discuss anything you like.
