 Advice on boat/motor
I'm finally getting more serious about duck hunting and am looking at getting a 27 hp pro drive surface motor on a 1752 mod v Jon boat. I wondered if anyone else out there has a similar setup. If so, or anyone who would like to chime in, can tell me how well they think it'd perform with three guys in boat? At most maybe even four total guys (that's with me included). Pretty new to this so would love some feedback. My duck hunting area is the Saginaw Bay of Michigan.

 Re: Advice on boat/motor
Where to begin....
I'll go ahead and tell you before Russ does, to search a little more and read reviews on other folks' setups. You'll learn a lot and likely avoid a costly mistake.
That being said... 27hp anything, mod V anything, 4 guys, Saginaw Bay (I read, Big Water) none of this mixes well.
You will want a big block version of whatever you want brand-wise (35,36,37hp) a true FLAT bottomed boat. The V bottom doesn't provide clean flat water to the prop like it needs to perform best. Also, 4 guys and gear will be a job for ANY mud motor on a 17' boat. Make it 18', or longer, and be realistic about your expectations. It will be slow. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise lol.
If I was in your shoes, I'd be looking into an outboard boat 18-20' and haul sneak type or layout type boats within paddling/poling distance of your spots.
Is there any particular reason why you are interested in your current hull/motor combination?

 Re: Advice on boat/motor
^what he said. 17' with a 27 is really small on big water solo much less weighted down with four people. I would go with at least 1854 with a big block if you are hailing 4 people you might be best to go with a 20' rig. If you are not running mud really shallow water or vegetation go with an outboard, They are much cheaper, faster and easier to run

 Re: Advice on boat/motor
I've got an 18x54 pro drive hull with the 37 EFI and I only get about 23mph out of it with 4 people. No way I'd want the 27hp.
