What to look for and general maintenance
Gents,
I'm moving back home in about 6 months and am selling my outboard rig and looking to move back to a mud motor. I used to have a 23 hp mud buddy long tail, but want to move to a surface drive on probably an 18ft rig.
Considering I have a budget of probably 8-9k for a boat, I'll be buying used. What do you normally look for in a mud motor when buying used? What are decent hours, compression, etc to check for?
Also, with a SD, what specific maintenance is different from an outboard? Trying to start understanding it all so I make a good decision when the time comes. Brand wise, I like what I've read about pro drive, gtr, and uncle-j, but what are some major ins and outs to look for motor wise?
