Post Transom height and Prodrive question thank you for any help
hello everyone first time posting here long time viewer. I just thought I ask for some advice from you veterans out there on the subject. here goes.....

well I recently picked up a 15.5 alweld flat boat from a guy and have a 2005 27 hp prodrive. the transom on the boat is 20" high and the ProDrive is a short shank lower foot. the set up literally takes 45 seconds to get on plain and when it does the motorist whining out and throwing a rooster while going about 15 mph. I looked into the conversion to make the motor a long shank. does anyone have any experience here ? I'm sure that's my issue. from what I understand the short shank needs a 15" transom. and a 20" for the long shank.

thank y'all for any help here ! God Bless
-Lee

Yes, it's possible to convert the motor to tall transom. I'm pretty sure it requires some welding though.
I personally would have the transom cut down instead of making the motor a tall transom.
Either way you will be fine. Converting the motor is a little harder than the boat.
And, I run a 16ft boat with a short transom 36 Prodrive.

No pods on my boat.
If you are worried about water coming over the boat, go with making the motor a tall transom. Whatever you want to do, is possible.
Either will be fine

I would convert the motor for two reasons.
1. back splash
2. resale later on

If your motor is running same speed at half throttle as full throttle you got prop issues! Hard bottom or soft bottom as well as deep water are factors! These motors I find do best in sludge! The props are so aggressive that they blow out in water! I had to go through four props to find one that would put my boat on step in deep water! But when I would hit the mud it was like a rocket! Shallow water with a hard bottom where skag fin cannot penetrate my boat is helpless! I put a jack plate on mine to get the transom height perfect it mad no difference! I would seriously think about the prop! Go to a prop man give him speeds and rpms and he can help you! You call dealer and unless you know exactly the prop you need they are going to sell you whatever they have on shelf!

Did you read where he said he has a short transom motor on a tall transom boat? :?

I agree with ya on the prop, but, he needs to fix the major issues first.

I converted mine to tall transom when I had my boat built. Pretty easy to do other than the welding, unless you know someone who can handle that for you. Peck at prodrive told me that I didn't have to weld on the extension because of how the lower unit bolts through the tower to the reverse plate, but I welded it anyway. It's pretty straight forward when you get the kit in the mail. Longer bolts, longer spline adapter, new tower bushing, and tower extension. In the pic you can see how the beveled end of the extension fits into the tower, and you weld the bevel full.
