Back story: Last weekend when removing the engine cover grass and preparing to leave from our pot hole the burlap and grass pulled the choke out on the mikuni carb. I did not know that the choke was pulled out and fired up the engine, and continued to run it for about an hour. I did notice the the motor was running at higher than normal rpm at idle. At one time I even thought I seen gas coming out of the overflow. I turned the engine off looked things over and fired it back up. I still had not noticed the pull choke being pulled out. I then ran the boat across the lake and parked it on the trailer. Once, on the trailer I walked around the boat and was able to see the choke stuck open. I pushed the choke closed fired the engine up and it returned to its normal running level. I decided I had better do an oil and oil filter change as well as a spark plug swap to ensure all is well. Prior to draining the oil I checked the oil level. It was clearly above the normal fill line on the dipstick. When I drained the oil it seemed really thin and smelled strongly of gas. Once completed with the oil change I fire the engine up and all seems to be good as new. No smokey exhaust and no rough running.

That brings me to my question. Does anybody know what the compression numbers should be for an engine like mine? In the back of my mind, I want to do a compression check to confirm nothing is damaged. I would like to be sure that the rings have not suffered any detrimental damage before going back out.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. If it keeps dumping fuel in the oil make sure your tank is venting and that the float in the carb isn't stuck.

Without knowing how much your heads or decked or what cam you have its hard to say what your compression should be
