I got home this afternoon and started try to figure out the timing. Timing is 29*BTDC. I also noticed the timing seemed to be advancing itself at random, to almost 40* BTDC. Might just have been the timing light. So I am thinking about bring it down to 25* and see what it does from there.

Welcome back, yes i would try 25. My non cdi was at 23 stock

My dumb question,,, you do have the non cdi coils right,,

Detonation is gone. Timing is 25* BTDC and running like a champ. Thanks all for the help. Hope this helps someone else down the road.

Did you have an offset key? Did you notice all the lateral play in the armature that can allow the timing to be adjusted somewhat that way aswell? Interesting isn't it?
