Post Prodrive PTO stuck help please!
gen1 Prodrive 36 HP (stage 2)

I went fishing couple days ago made a run up river (maybe 1 mile) when I stopped I smelled my clutch. made another float down river and a storm blew in so we made a quick run back to boat ramp. when I got to ramp I pushed PTO switch in to disengage prop. prop wouldn't disengage. I turned the motor off not thinking (should have trimmed the motor out of water) and when I got ready to load, I couldn't start to motor (im assuming it was because it was turning the prop as the motor would turn over.) I smelled my cutch again while trying to load.

the PTO switch is fairly new, along with the key switch and trim switch. I bought a new PTO switch yesterday in hopes it was a simple fix but didn't solve my problems.

I tried unplugging the wire from clutch thinking that might free things up, still nothing.

im wondering if any of you guys have ever had something like this or know anything to check. im thinking it may be something in the wiring harness. I do know that im going to order a new wiring harness because mine is in pretty rough shape. I have been meaning to do this for a while but keep putting it off. (about a month ago I had a hard time getting motor to turn over. I didn't think much about due to battery cable being a little rusty. no issues since until now.)

thanks for any help guys!!

Your clutch is fried.

Unplug the two wire connector going to your clutch. This removes any power to engage the magnets. If it still turns the prop while cranking, your clutch is gone.

:(

I was afraid of that news...

Is there anything in particular that causes it? Things seemed fine until last week as far as smelling my clutch.

I was searching the forum before I posted my problem and found a link to an aftermarket clutch. xtream powersports or something like that.. it claimed to be a performace clutch, im assuming that it would hold more torque, but would it give you less power terrain loss where they have "performance bearings". the only info i read was just the description on Amazon. any body have better results?

The only thing performance about them is the high temp bearing. I've had one on my gen2 prodrive for almost 100 hours with no issues so far.

Bryce, you certain you need a new wiring harness? When mine went out, just needed a new PTO switch and a new fuse.

Post Re: Prodrive PTO stuck help please!
Quick update, finally had an off day to put on the new clutch I ordered from Xtreme. I had to get a little creative using a utility trailer with a cherry picker to lift the power head off but things went well. Hardest part about mine was trying to get new clutch on. I should have know when my old one basically fell off that I was in for some trouble (nothing I do is ever quick and easy.....something ALWAYS happens). I finally took some 220 grit and cleaned the shaft up and it slid on like a champ. I changed lower unit oil and found a little problem. Oil had a metal sheen to it. I flushed as much of the old out as I could, gonna keep an eye on it. Not sure how bad things are it I don't think it's too serious atm. Anywho, thanks guys for the help! Maiden voyage in the morning to check things out......and hit up some smallies.:)

Yeah I'm not really worried about it yet. I had a mustang back in the day with a procharger on it. First time I changed the oil in it i almost puked. Magnetic plug was full of tiny shavings, but guy from favtory said it was completely normal. Took it out this morning and it ran like a top. Best it's ran in a while!! 24mph up river with gas tank 2 27dcms and a trolling motor in front.... and a 190lb guy sitting on front deck. I was tickled!

When I first got it I was getting 32mph. But that was an empty boat with just me, battery and gas tank in back. When I moved gas tank up front and then added trolling motor and 2 batteries it killed it. With me just me the way it sits now, I'm lucky to hit 27-28. My prop is a little wore but not enough to justify $$ to replace yet. But my boat is a freaking tank. 3/16 bottom. 1/8 Welded floor. 24" sides...6" catwalks. It's heavy mother. It weighs more than my 285 stratos I used to have.

I wish it was faster but I don't see it happening. Bare empty speed was great but everybody is gonna haul stuff in their boat. I gotta have a trolling motor lol it's saved me a few times on getting vack to ramp... and saved a lot of money getting crank baits outa trees lol

I'm curious what a compression test and a leakdown test would show. I can load 4 people and hunting gear and hit 27. It's a confirmable, repeatable, provable speed. I don't have a heavy boat, but 3 additional people, gear, and my boat don't weigh less than your boat with you. Granted, I have what would effectively be a stage 3, but there isn't a huge difference in capabilities between a 2 and a 3.

Faster than that. But I have a Kawi stage 2 with a 14p prop. I have blipped 35.6, but can hold 34 at about 4800 rpms. Most of the belt driven machines will be faster on top due to pulley ratio changes, but I wanted more load carry capacity. The biproductwas speed.
