Don't need to measure peckers with mine. Just kill ducks.

Need to have a pull off. The only thing is that the GT and the PD has to be on a GD hull, so the one that gets pulled backwards doesn't sink, since the GD boats has all that flotation.

Phill, I went through the same decision process. There were no dealers here and I did not know anyone who had a mud motor. I had never even seen one other than in a photo, until I purchased my PD. I started on this site and all I knew was that I had to have some sort of reverse.

I primarily hunt stationary blinds in a tidal marsh and I do so with a relatively big boat. For that reason, I wanted to be sure that the boat had considerable power in reverse to free itself from the bank if the tide went out. I also wanted reverse for picking up decoys, as we may put out up to 200 dekes and our marsh bottom has the consistency of bearing grease in places.

I selected Prodrive after watching the videos and reading some of the reviews. The fact that the motor can actually lift the transom of the boat and reach considerable speed in reverse was important to me for when I get into a gut or creek that I cannot turn around in. The lift keeps the transom from hanging up and the power allows me to back out considerable distances until the creek is wide enough for me to turn around.

When I do choose to hunt from the boat, the engine has the ability to "chew out" a hole in the marsh that will give me enough purchase to back out of the cover, even after the tide has receded.

The lack of instantaneous reverse takes some getting accustomed to. I no longer change engine direction when picking up decoys. Instead I leave the engine in reverse and "sweep" the boat through the decoys sideways. With three or four guys standing along the gunwale, you can pick up a big spread in a hurry. Having the prodrive in reverse has the added advantage of placing the propeller almost under the boat. This all but eliminates the risk of fouling any decoys in the propeller, and in the muck you don't blow any mud on the dekes.

I find that the only time I miss instantaneous reverse is when docking. However, the nice thing is that if you get a good mud boat to go with your mud motor, you stop worrying about hitting the dock or anything else for that matter.

In the rare occassion that I am picking up decoys with my boat, I throw the PD in reverse and reverse through all of the decoys. This give you much more control of the boat, especially in the wind. I very rarely have to switch from reverse to forward while doing this. Start down wind and pull yourself where ever you need to go.

I really appreciate all of the feed back.... One good thing about the PD is that they are now for sale in Alberta and I will be able to at least see it in person... Although the GTR is cheaper purchasing from the states even with the shipping taxes and duties.

I know I will be more than happy with either motor that I end up snagging... It might honestly come down to the "coin toss". This will likely be the only mud motor around out parts and I won't need to "compare" models.. Mine will always be bad ass.

I can promise you that you will be happy with whichever one you choose. They're both excellent products.

We can ride any day for the next 14.
