guys...i got caught in a nasty storm the other night and left the boat sitting on the trailer in my driveway. needless to say... my boat got a nice free washdown. i went to start the motor today and everytime it would start to turn over water dumps out of the lower unit, then it dies. any suggestions? gatortail is already closed for the day, and i was hoping to take the boat out with my girlfriend for some fireworks on the 4th...ahem...i mean to watch the fireworks. |

its a GTR35 stock. i checked the air filter and its dry. im wondering if i should pull the plugs and turn the motor over a few times to see if any water comes out? |

you shouldn't by no means have any water in the motor unless your breather hole on the top of the motor is facing forward for some reason and it was trimmed down aloowing the water to run down into the air filter housing. But the briggs is a cold natured engine and you have to run it for a couple seconds on choke to warm it up, plus the stock carbs aren't all that great for idling, trust me i fight mine every cold morning but then you figure out how to start it pretty easily, try that. |

changed the plugs and finally got it started after about 15 minutes of screwing with it. my hats off to gator tail by the way. i called them for help today. told me they were about to close for the day and had to finish mowing the grass. call back next week. great way to take care of a new customer... |

The water in the belt housing could have just been from the heavy rain, crank it up and run it the water will come out. |

Run it and water will come out. Also pull the plug on the bottom of the belt housing and let the water drain. |

There's also a cool device called an "outboard cover" I use mine if I'm keeping it at the house the night before hunting but other than that she's in a enclosed storage unit with a roof. |
