I tried searching the Forum. Can anyone post what their gain in MPH was after going from the Single Mikuni to the Twin? I am not concerned with your actual MPH after the Twin. I am considering going to a Twin and wondering if I will get 2 to 3 MPH gain or more? |

There is no guaranteed MPH gain when switching to the twin setup. Every boat and every motor will take the change a lil different. Somewhere in the 3-5 mph range sounds about right to me with the right setup, but I'm no expert. And the wrong setup may only gain 1-3 mph. You just never know. Also as DB8 said, you will more than likely lose some bottom end and gain a small amount on the top. |

Is there a noticeable difference in power between the Black Death 5500 and 4500 to justify going to the dual carb set up on the cdi motor? |

and as far as speeds my rig wont be finished getting built untill the end of this month but most people with similar rigs are telling me they are gettin low 30's |

Is there any advantage at all to having the twin carbs over the single? If there isn't, why is it that all the high end mud buddy engines have the twin set up? Just so they can charge you more? |

What? You can't idle with a single carb? That doesn't make any sense at all. From what I've read, depending on the boat, you may gain a mph or two on the top end, but bottom/mid range is not as strong. Single carb would be a lot easier to tune for the do it yourself type also. |

I would think that with the twin carbs you should have better throttle response being that there is a direct path for the air/fuel mixture to enter the cylinder. They might even produce a little more power since the air entering the engine should theoretically be cooler than air that needs to pass through an intake manifold located between two hot cylinders before entering an engine. One thing that helped me choose the Blackdeath 5500 that I have on order over the 4500 is the way the carbs are positioned. With the stock exhaust, the single carb is taking in air that is being heated before entering the engine and then heated again in the intake manifold. This might cause a slight increase in operating temperature and possibly some decreased power over the twin carb set up but, this is just my opinion. I know that while running at a higher rate of speed, the air blowing over a single mikuni set up should make any heat coming off the exhaust meaningless and installing duals will completely eliminate the heat source altogether. I am almost certain that there should be a difference in the temperatures of the the intakes on both engines but, if it's enough to make a difference in performance, I don't know. |
