Just curious...Why dont the folks tha make mm's use Vanguard small engines(6-13)? If vangaurd makes the best v-twins why not use the smaller engines too?

Best is a relative term. The manufacture's choose what works best in their opinion for their application. They have had good luck with the big block vanguards out of the box, so that is why they use them. They have tested a bunch of different brands and sizes from each brand. I would say the briggs is hardly the best engine on the market. Some of the possibly better choices require some modification to make them work well for us, and that does not fit in too well for mass production.

The kohlers and generacs I would say are both proven to be a better built motor. But they have fuel issues that make them not so great for a stock motor out of the box for our application. Put a mikuni carb on either and maybe a few other small adjustments and you have a much better built motor. But it takes a lot of time to add that stuff and fix every single motor that is sold. The vanguard is a solid motor out of the crate, idles well and runs well throughout the powerband. And vanguard has gone out of their way to create a marine series that makes it even better for this application. You have to understand most of these engines are designed to run at a specific rpm for a long period of time. They don't need to idle extremely well, and they don't need to run wfo very well.

Just my opinion anyway. And we know what people say about those. I'm sure some will disagree, but that's my take on it.
