The differences with the Newer CDI motors are the coils (built in Rev limiter), new charging stystem, and a stock stainless muffler. With that said you can do any mods you want to the engine, but you cant spin more than 4300 ish RPMs. |

So, is the rev limiter on the new csi engines a good thing? |

So if the rev limiter is built into the coils is it possible to swap them out for the old style coils? |

K&N is E4665 Wiring harness is different between the two motors. Diodes are built in the coils on the CDI so if you swapped the coils you would need to add extensions with diodes to your ground wires. The flywheel is a different part number than the stock flywheel on the IPL but the IPL is incomplete and doesn't show the 50A stator so who knows. I got to the point of starting to loosen the CDI coils to replace but noticed the harness difference and decided to do it after the season. Note- Built in rev limiter is much smoother than the aftermarket- just drops RPM and smoothly. |

Thanks, I figured it couldnt be as easy as just swapping the coils |

I have been wonder the same about mods on the CDI. However they don't need much in my opinion. My buddy and I have the same set up, his is and 07 PD with a Carb and BPS exhaust. He had the stock exhaust on it the other weekend and we ran the same speed with th same load, 2 people cooler. I'm thinking the exhaust will bump it up plenty. Just my .02. |

I wonder if any company is planning on coming out with some modded coils with a 5100 rpm rev limit built in? If they did, it would probably make the older ignition system obsolete on the higher performance engines with the higher rev limits. |

Chops.. Im think about getting that card soon.. I was wondering about the new black death intake also.. Is this needed being I would only have muffler and carb?!?! |

Post subject: | Re: New CDI motor |
If you're gettin the carb, it'll come with the adapter for your intake, the BD intake isn't necesary, but will give added gains in performance. |

That's what I was wondering if it would help a little more bring it would be more air. But I wasn't sure if it would help being I don't have any internal work done nor do I plan to. Muffler and carb is all I plan. But if the bd intake will help I'll also think about that when buy'n the carb |
