back your pilot air mixture screw out to 2 full turns (seat it and then back it out 2 revolutions).

Brass screw on the tiller handle side of the carb. Screw it all the way in like he said and then two full turns out.

My 32 PD, prolly 2007-2008 year model, is backfiring too.

The only screw I can see is the one that limits the top end speed.

There is a fat aluminum disc that looks like it could be hiding the mixture screw under it, it's at the base of the carb on the tiller handle side.

Didn't wanna poke a hole in something that needs to stay there, but if my mixture screw is stowed away in there I got no problem goin thru it.

Poke, or pass?
