Guys my ol man had me get him a old go devil for his birthday its a 8hp go devil and its like 7 feet long not what we need for timber, my dads a master mechanic and does alot of metal work and can weld really good. He is telling me he is going to pull the shaft out of it then cut the tube it runs down and when its done should be a little over three feet sticking out the back of the boat. He plans to make it a straight shaft since its sitting on a layout style boat and will be near the water, then he wants to retread the shaft "with a lade im guessing idk" and replace the seals and all and then put the prop back on will this idea work if so why if not why please i really would like yal to help with this before i help him cut up 300$ worth of antique go devil

At that angle that you will be cutting off, its hard to say if it will work or not. It will depend some on whether its a short or tall transom boat.

I am not being sarcastic at all, but if you are concerned about making the cut, I would call Warren Coco at Go-Devil and ask him. Once you get that dude started ...he will talk your head off.

Explain to him what you have, what you want to do and why, and he will give you the straight up answer, or may even guide you to a better idea.
