Well I have noticed a black film on my cavitation plate after a couple of outings recently. Enough to where its hard to wash off. I know a little bit about motors and I'm working on learning as much as I can. Any thoughts are appreciated. I'm thinkin I might be running a little too rich? Here is a picture of the plugs.

This is on a Prodrive 36 horse. In the pic of 2 plugs the right plug is on tiller side.

i own a motorcycle shop and those actually look perfectly normal. too rich would be like tar on the plugs, lean will make them white. brown is good.

This is after about 4 wash's and scrubbing the crap out of it. It was almost completely black...could barely make out the letters. Thats after about 7 hours of driving.

  hmmm........is the muffler old? i know sometimes carbon buildup inside a muffler will blow stuff out as the motor heats up and burns it

The motor runs well.... I mean I haven't noticed anything wrong... other than the black crap on my cav plate

well, usually yes. at least alot darker than the pics show. if a pplug is hot enough, it will burn the extra gas being delivered to the cylinder, thats why alot of people go up one 'level' of heat on their spark plugs if they have problems getting to warm up

you can try it, wont hurt anything. maybe call the dealer and see if they've had any issues before

Those plugs look perfect, how long did you run them in the engine before you took them out?

You have a a short transom rig and you get backwash in your exhaust when stopping to fast. Thats just the carbon/water dripping out of the exhaust port.

On these engines is there always one cylinder that runs leaner than the other? Judging by his pictures, it seems like the plug on the right is running a bit leaner than the other.
