Deadbird8: link to those values? Does anyone have a link to a detailed manual with these specs and instructions for installing heads, porting and polishing intakes, decking heads as these procedures apply to vanguard engines? I can find generalized manuals but none have the depth and breath of information for which I am looking. Any help...links, publishers, online retainers, titles would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

x2 Briggs may even have a service manual in pdf format on their website. Kohler does. If not, order one... There's not gonna be any info on modifying the engine though, so nothing about porting then intake.

If anyone knows it would be DB8... I've looked for some stuff on the briggs site before, like you said, its tough.

On another note, the kohler site is very easy to navigate. For those of you running kohlers, check it out. They have all the parts lists, owners manuals, and service manuals online...

Repair manual is orderable from briggs or others, I got mine from Jacks Small Engine. - it has a Briggs part number. I have not seen one on-line. Briggs doesn't have 'manuals' for modifying the engines (decking heads etc...)

If you are changing the heads then the manual is not gonna help you much except for torque sequence for the heads (which only shows 5 bolts instead of 6 in the diagram anyway). It doesn't go into step by step detail about pulling off the cowling etc... You would would need a 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, Torx T40, and torque wrench. Take off the fan cage etc.., cowling, intake, valve covers, exhaust, then air baffle shields, and finally the 6 bolts for the head.

Porting the stock intake- I did a long post with pictures on the site that can't be named that gives a step by step. But they block that site here or I would post the link.

Any one know the torque spec for the clutch bolt? (At least that's what I think it's called....the bolt that goes into the clutch and hold everything to the shaft) Thanks.
