I need some form of support for my Mikuni on my 36 PD. I was out today bangin around in the stumps when that sum bitch fell off. I know that if I dont get somethin under there for some support on the bottom of it, that this will become a recurring problem throughout duck season. Which is no bueno. Has anyone made or had something made to support these Mikunis on vertical motors? I know with the horizontals that you can take the stuff from the old carb and use it for support. But so far I haven't seen anything for the verticals. Any ideas? |

Owen, shoot DB8 a PM. I think he was the one that posted up something about using fab/stock pieces from the horizontals to support the Mikuni. He might have worked on a vertical or two. I never really looked to see if our brackets could be made into something, but now I am curious enough to go take a look. There are enough bolt holes already tapped in the area where I am sure something can be done with breckets. This has been on my mind lately as well; when I look back there, there's alot of vibration going on. It would rest my mind as well with some support. I haven't seen anything other than DB8's comments. If I figure something out I'll let you know. Did the whole carb fall off, or just the air filter? |

I just went take a look at the motor and dug the stock parts out the box. You now have a project that will do what you want. If you still have the bracket support, Briggs ref no. 890,part # 843358 then you have it. If you take that braket and try to put it back, the Mikuni drain bolt won't allow you to do it. I think all that would be required is to drill two different holes in the bracket. If you can guess the location of the two new drill holes just right, the bracket willl press up on the drain bolt. The tab on the support bracket is bendable, so you should be able to tweek it just right. THis is the bracket that ties into the stock elbow intake. The tab that ties into the elbow will be the support that will touch the mikuni drain bolt. I think that is all DB8's version was, enought to provide a little lift and take the vibration out. Total cost is $0 with the stock bracket. If we can get a pic of what they did on the horizontals; then you know what to do. |

The BPS comes with a lil foam cube that sits on top of the stock fuel pump, the drain bolt sits on the foam. |

Tc, mine didn't come with a foam cube and its only a few months old. Is that something new they just put out? |

They are modifying the old carb support bracket, but I don't think it will work with the verticals. |

Quackquackblast had that same issue, he made a aluminum plate that mounted where the air filter mounts and used leaders to attach it to the motor. It works pretty good, we have jumped islands and hit our fair share of stumps and we have had no issues. Hope this will help. Maybe shoot him a pm and he can explain it better is you need so more info. |

had the same thing happen to mine 3 different times havent had the rig out since the last time water is low everywhere here and it'll be fine for awhile then one good smack and there it goes again I thought mine was gone the first time and then the third time but thank goodness for fuel hose lol When yall figure somethin out post up or let me know |

Wouldn't be the prettiest thing ever, but why not wrap two zipties around the intake? That is what I planned on doing with mine... |

I just got through modifying the stock carb bracket to make it work. It's not the best or prettiest, but I think it will act as a bumper guard to keep the Mikuni from falling out. I haven't had a problem before, but since others were having problems I decided to do it. I had to drill 2 new holes further up from the existing holes so that the bracket would fit under the carb. After that the bracket wants to contact the drain bolt hole. I just kept bending to get the bracket underneath the drain bolt. If I have a high impact, the bracket will stop it before it falls out. I left enough air space so the carb free floats. I pulled the carb down some and it will contact the bracket. We shall see. |

Thanks Gary. Good idea on the hydroturf for a little shock absorption. I'll see what I can scrounge up to give it a little padding as well. |

Thanks Ronnie. I'll let you know. I had requested some samples from HT, but I don't know if I still have them. I'll have to take a look. A piece of old neoprene computer mouse pad might do the trick too. |
