I upgraded from a 32 to a 36 carb on my 32.

One of the reasons was that it had adjustments that the 32 did not have.

Now that I have it, not sure what the adjustments are or what they do. Everything seems to be running fine, plugs look good, etc. but when I move them it doesn't seem to do anything. I assumed they were low speed adjustments.

I am just curious and would like to know how it works for future reference. Right now, just have them set dead center. They only travel about 1/2 turn due to the stops on them.

First two pics are the adjustments on the two barrels. Third pic is just another interesting little thing I wasn't sure what it was. It has a rubber end to it but doesn't seem to do anything. Might be for some other application, but thought I would post it up and see if anyone knew what it is or does. I have the briggs manual but because this is off the 36, this carb is not in there.

those are limiters they put on the screws to keep folks from turnin em too much and really goofin it up- plus its an EPA thing. if you know how to listen to the engine then just pop em off and adj it. if you need to read up on low speed needle adjustments on the web. plenty of places to find that info.

So that is the low speed adjustment?

Those are idle air mixture adjustment screws and the limits are for EPA as stated above. If you modifiy the carb they would come into play to adjust your coming off-idle performance. If you wanted to adjust them, just cut off the limiter arms with a dremel, they are brass and can break, several folks that just 'popped off the caps' broke them.

If it runs well, just leave them alone.

I don't know what that tubing in Picture #3 is for but the rubber cap was rotten and causing my engine to flutter at high speed. DPD noticed this when he came over to show me how to adjust valve lash when I was priming the bulb before starting engine gas started to leak / pour out. I investigated it the following day and found the rotten cap.

That is a drain for the fuel bowl- pull off the cap and tilt the carb to drain it.
