Post subject:  Converting standard engine to CDI Marine?

Just for future reference, I have a Briggs 35hp CDI engine. If in the future, I found myself in need of another engine because of whatever reason, do you think it would be possible to install the parts that make my engine a CDI on a non CDI model? I think that if I were to just swap the main parts that make my engine a CDI such as the flywheel, coils, stator, wiring harness, ect and put them on a non CDI model it should work since internally I don't think there's any difference between the two.

The reason I'm asking is because I haven't been able to find a Briggs CDI on sale anywhere but I have seen the standard model on ebay for $1700 shipped before.

Yes, if you compare the IPLs they are the same parts. The difference is muffler, coils, wiring harness, flywheel and 50A stator, 50A Voltage Regulator, intake and fuel pump.

If you blew something up, get a shortblock- its cheaper..

DB, where would you be able to get a shortblock? From Briggs or another source?
