Ok so I changed the plug, which looked fine but hey 3 bucks later no biggie, still no fire from right cylinder.Even went as far as emptying out gas completely and putting fresh high octane. So does this mean plug wire or coil is bad? If so do I just hook up to amp meter to check and if no power walllahhhh fix a roo and she will be better? Any suggestions on a tool to solve would be great. Also if it is the coil what does one run on a 25 kohler command, I think autogateman had replaced his with a 18 hp coil, correct me if I am wrong auto, should this or could it help, by going with a coil that does not require power from battery 24/7.

This sucks wanted to go deer hunting today.

dont know about a kohler, but on a vanguard theres a wire connects to both coils, has "diodes" or something in it.the diodes sometimes burn up and wont fire right.
if you have 2 coils,id replace them both and keep the good one for a spare.that "wire' connecting to the coils on a 23 was like 8 or 9 bucks if i remember.
good luck.

Thank you for the information, where can i get this at, the local auto parts? Haven't checked yet but where do you guys go locally (auto parts, lawn mower shop, etc.) that help in these situations with parts. Or is it one of those order online and wait?

I don't know the specific model # of your engine, but here is a service manual link that may help you.

Download the service manual from the kohler website.

Have you checked to see if your getting spark yet? You can get a spark checker from the auto store or harbor freight for cheap. Or you can just stick a screwdriver in the socket hold it close to the block and turn the motor over, if you get spark the coils should be okay. Make sure you aren't touching the metal on the screwdriver if you try that. You will get a nice little zap if you are.

That motor has an sjb (smart spark or spark advance) module. They have been known to cause problems. There is detailed instructions in the service manual on how to test it to see if it's working properly. If it's bad, you can get the 18hp coils witch have no spark advance or box, you can get the "new" box for your motor, or they came out with a new set of coils for the 30 motor that still have the advance but don't have a box. There is a guy on ebay that sells the 18 and 30 coils. The new box for your motor you can get from kohler or opengines.com.
