 Re: Decked & polished heads
decking the heads shaves material off the gasket surface, therefore increasing compression. polishing is where they smooth the surfaces where the air enters the head from the intake and gives better air/fuel delivery.

 Re: Decked & polished heads
stock pistons and stock rods. the work that is getting done to my stock heads involve. port, flow, polished, shaved.060, SS vavles that are being cut shortened and lightened, heavy duty push rods, shims under the springs and a 3 angle vavle job. And on the motor i have a cam, mikuni carb, and evt exhaust. before the heads i am getting 34.4 MPH at 4300 rpms on a 17x52 extreme GTB hull with a 12x10 prop with cup added. Two ppl loaded for hunting 32 MPH. so im very excited to see what speeds i run after i get my heads back and installed

 Re: Decked & polished heads
how would having heavy duty pushrods hurt or damage the engine?

 Re: Decked & polished heads
you have to have a giving point that is where the stock pushrods work the best, or if something goes wrong you can mess up a lobe on the cam

 Re: Decked & polished heads
Push rod are cheap and very easy to change out while on da water. If and when something decided to give dat is da best spot for da weakest point. Coondik has allready prove dis theory.

 Re: Decked & polished heads
i understand what your saying but if something happens to bend a pushrod then you are very lucky that this is all you messed up and typically will have lots more trouble to worry about than just changing a pushrod and goin ride somemore

 Re: Decked & polished heads
Yes but a bent push rod in my experiences are caused by a split second over reving of Rpms, so with this the stock push rod bends and saves your cam lobes.

 Re: Decked & polished heads
What do you guys consider over reving? I know some of the higher end MB engines have the rev limit set a 5100 rpm but I don't think they run the factory push rods. I know my 5500 doesn't have the factory push rods in it and it has a rev limit of 4300 rpm.

 Re: Decked & polished heads
I'm sure I will be corrected here if I'm wrong, but I want to say the stock rods fail somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000. Maybe 5500, but I think it was closer to 5.
