Motor runs like JUNK in the cold???
As soon as it gets bellow 25 degrees my motor runs that junk, back fires, unable to accellerate, stalls, etc. Usually cant get it going without the choke pulled. It sems that after a long run its even worse. Runs great at WOT just low range some mid range and idle.Is there a good solution to fix this? I assume its carb icing im dealing with. I was thinking about trying to transfer some of the muffler heat to the carb. Its a EVT stage one 36 prodrive. Thanks Dave

Re: Motor runs like JUNK in the cold???
If necessary, rotate the air cleaner inlet toward the muffler. Go to the auto parts store and get some heat duct pipe in the diameter you need. It should be metal and therefore flexible. Clamp it to the air cleaner inlet and direct the other end down to a warm place to grab heat from the engine block or backside of the muffler. I've done it years ago with a horizontal Briggs 35; haven't needed to do it to my Prodrive but I am sure some day when I least expect it my carb will ice.
Don't forget to remove all of that stuff when the weather gets warm.

May try adjusting the enrichment screw first. If you are unable to add enough fuel that way then you will need to increase the pilot jet size.

Re: Motor runs like JUNK in the cold???
I've got the same setup. In the last few weeks we have been hunting in 35-12 degree temps. I've found that it requires almost 1/2 of a turn in Idle Mix adj to cover that range of temps. It seems to need to be very lean when it is very cold. As the engine warms or as the temps warm, it seems to need to be a bit more rich to run smoothly.
You also need to check the accelerator pump actuator cam to be sure the pump is being actuated as soon as you come away from idle, or so I have been told. However, I haven't read or heard anything about how to set the upper limit for the pump.

Those screws on the bowl are soft and strip out the screwdriver slots easily. If needed, just replace with stainless of the same size- these are metric screws.
Usually you will need more fuel when cold/dry and less when its warm.

Re: Motor runs like JUNK in the cold???
I just changed out my 22.5 for 25 during the winter due to lean detonation when it would first come off idle.
Tuning manual said if your best idle is less than 1 turn out on AF screw, your jet is too small. You may try going the other way.
