Post Generac Mods
Cracked the block on my stage 1 Briggs. Have a Generac 40 on the way. Maybe I'm crazy for wanting to mod another motor , but I just need a little more get up and go for my big ol barge 2054.

I'm thinking of advancing the timings, carb, exhaust, deck the heads, shim the valve springs. Considering a cam. For the guys that have a little experience with the generac, would these mods be somewhat reliable? Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Get a mikuni, change over to the stock natural gas pistons (flat tops), advance the timing but find a way to lock it in as the flywheel will slip as advance keys are not readily available, leave the stock cam in it... and leave the heads alone as the combustion chamber is already pretty small 9:1 compression stock motor so the flat tops will put you as far as you want to go in my opinion... Robert at EVT did mine so I can only speak from the outside since I did not see the internals go in... I think you will be happy with that... Stage 2 power in a stronger block... more power than you think at only 4000rpm...

They are a very smooth running motor at 4000rpm.... wont shake ya to death like a Briggs

Do the connecting rods need to be switched out if the flat top pistons are done? Also, would it then be a good idea to beef up the valves to a one piece stainless and better push rods?

After speaking with Mike at evt, we have agreed the following recipe should work best for my needs.

Port/Polish the heads , No decking
Stainless Valves, shim the valve springs.
Mikuni 42mm Carb with evt adapter, mod the intake.
High Flow Exhuast
Advance the timing
Lock out the governer and install Rev Limiter

Motor already has flat top pistons installed. Hopefully this will give me years of dependable service (yeah, right  )
