 continued problems.
I posted a while back about having problems with my engine killing when i would put it in gear. Well i was told that the govern was the problem and it turns out that it wasnt. Then i was told that a mikuni would fix my problems. So i got a mikuni and now it idles in start, but once i put it in gear it kills. Any suggestions?

Do you have good throttle range when in neutral?

 Re: continued problems.
Does it immediately die or does it bog down first? Are we talkin open water or in mud? If it's clear water & dies as soon as clutch is engaged, it sounds like a short in the wiring at the clutch switch or clutch breaker. Hard to say with limited info on it.

 Re: continued problems.
It takes just a couple seconds to kill. But i have to give it gas as soon as i put it in gear. This happens in open water and in mud. just not out of the water.

 Re: continued problems.
I HAD A SIMILAR PROB. brought it to 2 briggs shops, wasted money and time. finally brought it to hoyt. hoyt set the coil gap and changed the plugs, thought he fixed it,didnt charge anything told me to get out of here. got home, loaded boat still wont run rite.run fine in neutral,in gear,no good.more wasted time. found the prob.myself: wires for clutch switch melted to wires for emergency kill switch.(just making contact) wrapped wires with tape and bent them where they aint touching no mo. good to go.

 Re: continued problems.
Wrapped up both the start/forward wires and the trim wires. Problem continues. Any more ideas?

 Re: continued problems.
I am idling at about 1250 rpms. Then I engage into forward and it's steadily drops to about 800 then continues to decrease until it kills. The only way it stays running, is if I am on the throttle and keep it above about 1500.

 Re: continued problems.
the wire with diodes was burnt on mine, also i may have changed out a coil for nothing. if you are running on both cyls.then open the valve covers, check it out in there, they should be set at 5 thousnths, thats where hoyt looked first.

 Re: continued problems.
I'm thinkin either bad diodes or a leaking valve.

 Re: continued problems.
the wire between the two coils is the one with the diodes,in case you didnt know. like stated above, gots to be that or valve. diode wire is a verry easy & cheap fix.

 Re: continued problems.
Yes, there is no problem with it at wide open throttle. Once I get it up, it runs.

 Re: continued problems.
OK, that rules out the diodes, ya already went to a Mikuni, so that rules out the stock carb issues, if it was a bad bearing you would hear it. Next step for me would be a leak down test & checkin the valve lash.

 Re: continued problems.
Ok, by bearing. You mean in the lower unit? Because that may be an issue. About 5 hours previous on my engine I checked my lower unit grease and it was extremely low and it wasn't due for it yet. Just throwing it out there even if it has nothing to do with it!

 Re: continued problems.
Yes, in the lower unit, but I'm willin to bet that's not the problem.
